I recently attended the Mobilize Women Summit and I wanted to share the following analysis of Women's Representation on GCC Company Boards (2024). The GCC Board #GenderIndex #Report 2024 by Heriot-Watt University and Aurora50 reveals that women's presence on company boards in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) remains limited but is gradually improving. 📈 As of January 2024, women hold 5.2% of board seats across the GCC's publicly listed companies, with notable variation among countries. The UAE 🇦🇪 leads at 10.8%, while Qatar is at the lower end with 1.8%. A Significant Milestone for Gender Balance in the UAE🇦🇪 With the new Ministerial Resolution 137 of 2024, all Private Joint-Stock Companies must allocate at least one seat for women on their boards by January 2025. This follows the success of similar policies for public joint-stock companies. Here’s why this matters ➤ - 30% women in leadership by 2025 is the goal. - Women will have a greater role in decision-making, driving economic growth and global competitiveness. - The initiatives like the 'Women on International Boards' programme and the 'SDG 5 Pledge to Accelerate Gender Balance are crucial supporters. - Women in the UAE have proven their capabilities across all the sectors, playing an indispensable role. - Equal pay for the same job was enshrined into law in year 2020 and women now hold 50% of the seats in the Federal National Council since 2018.
