🔎 To start the year off well, “Deemea literature review ! “ is back !!! Deemea team has selected for you the article of the week on #AI & #Orthopedics. 👀 This week, we present an article by Pouria Rouzrokh et al. – published in the The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Inc. in 2022. In order to unlock the full potential of health data, the collection and utilization of such data have become pivotal challenges in the 21st century. Despite the significant boom in health data registries and warehouses, imaging data is underrepresented. The collection and standardization of imaging data face numerous obstacles, a tedious manual curation is then required to ensure the relevance of the selected images. Being aware of this challenge, Rouzrokh et al. established an automated registry of hip and pelvic x-rays for patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty. For the creation of this registry, they developed a suite of deep learning algorithms to automate both the structuring of imaging data and their annotation with 99.9% accuracy and 99.6% precision. Accelerating the creation of radiographic databases and, more broadly, imaging databases through artificial intelligence is crucial to improve patient care, promote clinical research, and facilitate health surveillance – all contributing to the growing interest in health data. It is with the same goal of expediting the structuring and analysis of imaging data that Deemea provides an all-in-one platform for the management of medical imaging data in the clinical research context.
