Due to the red weather warning affecting the region, our Dumfries and Stranraer campuses will both be closed on FRIDAY 24TH JANUARY 2025. Students and staff should NOT travel to the campus tomorrow, classes will be moved online and staff should work remotely. We anticipate the campus will be open as usual on Monday, but we will provide an update on all social media platforms on Sunday. We'd like to remind everyone to stay safe and acknowledge the weather warnings in place.

How can we tell if residents feel safe? Officials often lack the tools needed to measure public safety in a way that accounts for what residents experience in their daily lives. Our latest report draws on research co-conducted with World Youth Connect and insights shared by young people in Saint Paul. The report proposes a novel approach to incorporating community insights to create actionable indicators of public safety based on interviews and focus groups with 50 young people from Saint Paul. Our hope is that this research provides a blueprint for other communities to gather resident input and develop community-based indicators that may provide real-time insight on whether public safety interventions make residents feel safer. It’s MAY – and the weather is warm , the pools are opening, AND it’s national water safety month. PLUS, since drowning is the 3rd leading cause of death worldwide, and the #1 cause of death in children ages 1-4, there is no age at which we shouldn’t discuss this. So, with today’s post, we’re talking two really important topics: (1) What to do if you find someone near-drowning and (2) My “multi-layer pool safety” plan. https://lnkd.in/exv44ej8
