Being a Technical Sales Representative is a challenging yet rewarding career. It requires a unique blend of sales savvy and technical know-how. In a very price-driven market, the pressure to sacrifice quality for cost can be intense. However, compromising on quality often leads to a shorter lifespan for equipment, ultimately costing more in the long run. Sometimes, it’s essential to forgo a sale if the customer is unwilling to invest in quality. Standing by this principle ensures better outcomes for both parties in the long term. Integrity in sales isn’t just about making the deal; it’s about delivering lasting value. #TechnicalSales #QualityOverPrice #SalesIntegrity #EngineeringExcellence

I just finished the course “Technical Sales: The Role of the Sales Engineer” by John Care! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/g2-VkU83 #salesengineering. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this course for anyone in sales in general! It gives a snapshot into what a sales engineer does and will help any seller become more effective in their respected field. If you give it a go, let me know your thoughts on it and I would love to chat on how you already or will try to implement the strategies outlined in this course into your career!

Looking back at my 7+ years as a Sales Engineer, here are three things I wish I knew sooner: It’s Okay to Not Have All the Answers – Customers value honesty and transparency. If you don’t know something, say you’ll find out. The Customer Comes First – Always listen to the customer’s problem before jumping to a solution (pro tip: this works in any interaction or relationship). Build Relationships with Sales – A strong partnership with your sales team will lead to better deals and smoother processes. As an SE, your job is to make both the AEs and prospects you work with as successful as possible. Figure out how to do both at the same time (even when it means doing difficult things, like pushing to disqualify deals that truly aren't a good fit).

Step 1 In Sales: Understanding Your Solution You cannot be successful as a sales professional if you do not understand what you’re selling. “I sell pool chemicals” “I sell construction services” “I sell SaaS”. No. You sell the ability to enjoy your backyard pool, you solve an infrastructure need, you help your customers perform their business tasks faster, more efficiently and most cost effectively. In B2B sales, you need to solve a business problem. No business problem, no sale. No pain, no gain. You need to understand what business problem your solution solves. Stop thinking “What’s in it for me, the sales professional(WIIFM)” ( 💰 , duh), And start thinking “What’s in it for me, the customer” The only way you're going to get time of day from a potential customer is if you can tell the, why your solution is useful to them! Tomorrow, Step 2: Identifying your customer

Pseudo Sales People? Having a monotone sales person interacting with customers won't be as effective as having a sales engineer on your team. A sales engineer will have the technological knowledge as well as the skills to properly interact with the customers. The best of both worlds! #SalesEngineerAdvantage #EffectiveInteraction #TechKnowHow
