Recently, Dunaway’s own Matt Patyk, CPSWQ, CFM had a blast providing students with hands-on experience with ArcGIS software as part of Texas Christian University's Supply Chain B-Tech Camp! Held annually by the TCU Neeley Center for Supply Chain Innovation, the Supply Chain B-Tech Camp is a summer residential program for high school students, providing a hands-on experience with opportunities to explore the world of business technology and learn how it drives innovation in the global supply chain.

A big part of designing a workshop is minimizing what I say, getting out of the way of coaches and students so they can just do ‘stuff.’ Most teachers (and therefore student expectations) are overly obsessed with perfection. Today I brought up the 64/4 rule. After 4% effort you might have a 64% result. Sharing this ‘failure’ seems like the wrong idea because it has so many deficiencies still. But a healthy culture will see that ‘rapid prototype’ and be able to imagine the real impact. This feedback should be BRUTAL, not because of the low quality prototype, but because these kinds of less-than-viable products can evoke feedback about THE PROBLEM, which often still needs refinement before a real round of prototyping should begin. Most of the time teams focus on highly visible signals. signals that are obvious are also ‘skin deep’ and instead need to be investigated for deeper root-cause. Looking forward to sharing ideas about the competencies of innovators with Marcus “CUS” Carrion and the team at the learning symposium from our 12 mercury cohorts and 19 in-person mercury workshops.
