Great experience indeed! One lesson I learned: Spotting animals (especially the Lion) requires patience and perseverance, much like projects or goals in the workplace. Some successes come slowly but are worth the wait, reinforcing the importance of persistence.

Reflection Time is so important for your personal development. In the post below, I share some of my recent reflections.
What decisions that involve change are you struggling with?
Are you feeling stuck in your career or stuck with finding balance?
What obstacles are you facing today?
How often do you take time out to reflect on what is going well and what isn't?
Let's talk!

Executive coach | Hydrogen Commercial Management | Chairperson of the Board for ACCESS The Netherlands | Passionate about making renewable energy and circular economy work | Founder of The No Limits Perspective
Its been a while since I have posted on LinkedIn, but today is a day filled with reflection as it marks my 21st anniversary since arriving in the Netherlands from South Africa.
It was meant to be a 3-year assignment in a Strategy role – a topic I fell madly in love with whilst doing my MBA. I was excited, yet scared about the prospect of starting out so far away from anything that was familiar. It was the correct move to make when I still defined myself by my career, and yet whilst my priorities have changed significantly - I still see it as the correct move because of how I developed. This was not the only massive change I made in my life – many more followed. With each new challenge I faced, I discovered just how resilient and strong I am as a woman, a leader, a professional and as Kim.
Some of the things I now find as a source of joy, which did not even feature in my life or thoughts back then:
· Networking - not just meeting new people but making new connections through them.
· Friendships that are worth maintaining – long-lasting, near & far, amazing connections!
· Making bold and risky decisions and then implementing those changes with determination
· Being vulnerable and transparent – not shy to ask for help when I get stuck
· Valuing balance in my life – this might have been the hardest lesson to learn, but now it is such a wonderful source of joy!
· Sharing my wisdom & knowledge and helping others overcome obstacles
· Learning from diverse cultures – having worked in more than 20 countries & lived in 4, it has awakened my curiosity about people, their habits and behaviours and understanding the value of that!
Today I returned to South Africa from the Netherlands for a few weeks to top up on what remains my foundational joy – family, friends, sunshine, African sunsets, celebrations and re-immersing into my culture.
Yes, it is a joy to be home!

Ruminating on my journey as the Cultural Secretary at Gargi College,
I've come to appreciate how much this role has taught me about leadership, creativity, and resilience.
One of the most significant lessons I learned was the power of teamwork. Coordinating events, festivals, and cultural activities showed me how crucial it is to collaborate effectively.
Every team member brought something unique to the table, and leveraging these diverse strengths was key to our success but then it was extremely evident with alot of things coming new on the table there were disagreements too,
which were overcome by analysing each and every aspects.
Adaptability became my mantra.
No event ever went exactly as planned, and I had to think on my feet constantly. Whether it was a last-minute venue change or a technical glitch, finding creative solutions quickly was essential to keep things running smoothly.
Clear communication was at the heart of everything.
Whether I was negotiating with vendors, promoting events, or resolving conflicts within the team, being able to articulate ideas clearly and listen actively made all the difference.
Balancing academic responsibilities with the demands of organizing events was a lesson in impeccable time management.
Prioritizing tasks and staying organized ensured that nothing fell through the cracks and that every event was a success.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this role was building a sense of community.
Seeing students connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories reinforced the importance of the fact that why we started at the first place.
Of course, there were challenges. Resource constraints often pushed me to be more resourceful and think outside the box to maximize the impact with what we had.
Conflicts within the team were inevitable, but navigating these disagreements strengthened me over-all as a human being.
And handling last-minute event cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances taught me to manage disappointment, set realistic expectations, and always have a backup plan.
Being the Cultural Secretary wasn’t just about organizing events; it was about leading with empathy, inculcating creativity, and building a community.
I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for the team that made it all possible.
Here’s to the next chapter of learning and growth!

🌙 Ramadan Mubarak to those observing 🌙 At RSM Australia, we celebrate diversity and value all cultures and traditions. As we embrace the spirit of Ramadan, a couple of our RSM Australia team members have kindly shared with us how they balance fasting with their work responsibilities.
🗨️ "Maintaining productivity while fasting becomes a bit more challenging at the beginning of the month, but understanding how your body and mind react to the whole process can help you keep more engaged, and focused. I have a prayer space in my office, where I usually go and pray when I need to, so that makes me feel more relaxed and focused on my tasks... I mostly focus on prioritising my prayers and fasting in time, and that usually helps me to coordinate and prioritise my work responsibilities more efficiently."- Farzana Mim, Gosford.
🗨️ "It is difficult. But I make sure I eat a lot of dates and drink a lot of water before starting and ending the fast. The most important thing that keeps you going is the belief and the reward for fasting. The first couple days are always difficult but once the body is accustomed, it does not make any difference." - Armughan Azam, Sydney.
Are you observing Ramadan? We'd love to hear how you maintain productivity in the workplace 👇

I help young people discover their entrepreneurial spark through empowerment. DM "EWH"//Entrepreneur//Youth Empowerment Advocate//Business Development Manager//Project Manager//AIESECer
It was all just a suggestion until I decided to act on it.
I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the incredible journey I’ve had with AIESEC in Ghana. I officially completed my role as Business Development Manager on August 7, 2024, after presenting my year-end report to the Board of Directors.
Reflecting on this experience, I’m at a loss for words. AIESEC has been such a significant part of my life over the past three years. Through it, I found a sense of family, purpose, a safe space, and a drive to grow as a young leader. I’ve had the chance to take on various roles and learn from some truly remarkable individuals.
This journey began with a suggestion from one of my predecessors, Chidera. After I mentioned on social media that my role as Chair of the AIESEC Audit and Compliance Board was my final position, Chidera encouraged me to consider a new role. I took the advice, and I must say, this role truly was the icing on the cake. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me the value of teamwork, especially since I am naturally goal-oriented and tend to focus more on tasks than on team bonding.
Here are some valuable lessons I’ve learned during my year as Business Development Manager:
📌Don’t be afraid to try new things. Despite my passion for business, my lack of formal background made me doubt my fit for the role.
📌Achieving results becomes easier when teammates feel like family rather than just colleagues.
📌Always ask questions about things you don’t understand. A questioning mind is a an answer bearing mind.
📌There’s no shame in seeking help. If you know someone who can expedite results, whether a mentor or a senior individual, don’t hesitate to reach out.
📌Your voice at the table matters. A reserved mind also suffers the consequences of a team’s failure.
What are some of your experiences working in a team, feel free to share them in the comment section
