MAJORANA Project : Germanium-76 is not the only element that can undergo double-beta decay. Other detectors use isotopes of tellurium, xenon, neodymium, or other elements. It’s important to establish that any instance of neutrinoless double-beta decay really reflects the property of the neutrino. If the process is seen in more than one element, that’s very strong evidence that the neutrino is indeed its own antiparticle. #Indonordicassociation(dot)org Indo Nordic Strategic Association, India https://lnkd.in/dBWuNPRr

Access and price of lithium (and its precursors) play a direct role in EV transition and adoption of other storage systems as it has strongly influenced the balance between Li-ion and Na-ion demand in the past. Currently, two lithium extraction methods, namely from brine and spodumene are possible only in a few geographical regions. Direct lithium extraction (DLE) has been under research to enable lithium access in regions where Lithium brines and ores are absent and is sometimes promised with lower cost or with a lower environmental footprint than the traditional methods. So far, very few DLE methods have been proven in concept, such as extraction from geothermal waters in Europe. I will present more on DLE methods and their promise in the upcoming "direct lithium extraction 2024" conference in Munich in September and will dive into its current state and activities by market players as well as its feasibility to be integrated with the lithium production chain. The article points out that perovskite solar cells efficiently convert solar energy into electrical energy, boasting low production costs and ease of manufacturing, thereby serving as a crucial supplement to traditional silicon-based solar cells. The crystal structure of perovskite materials relies on a tetrahedral arrangement of atoms or molecules shaped like pyramids, enabling excellent light absorption and charge transport. These cells typically combine common inorganic and organic components, such as methylammonium or formamidinium, containing carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen... Methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) features a hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite structure characterized by corner-sharing lead iodide octahedra. The organic methylammonium ions occupy the interstitial spaces, contributing to the material's stability and optoelectronic properties. Visualized using VESTA, the structure reveals a three-dimensional framework with a cubic symmetry, showcasing the distinct arrangement of lead (Pb) and iodine (I) atoms, which are pivotal for its photovoltaic performance.

Paper in collaboration with the León Islas lab gets the cover of JGP. “Our January cover shows outward single-channel currents from TRPV1 channels carried by the indicated ion (upper) and inward currents carried by sodium (lower). Also shown are extracellular views of the open and closed structures of TRPV1. Both the single channel conductance and channel gating are modulated by the permeant ion. TRPV1 ion channels are important players in thermal and chemical sensation and have roles in pathological states. In this work, Garcia-Ávila et al. (https://hubs.ly/Q02dFF9t0) employ single-channel recordings to observe that large cations are more permeable than smaller ones and uncover fast conformational changes that are distinctly modulated by the cation occupying the pore. via Grafa Widgie Nickel Limited revealed a new high-grade lithium prospect, "Gemini," expanding the known lithium trend in the Mt Edwards Project by 1.2km. The Gemini prospect, 600m north of Atomic 3, and assay results from Voyager highlight substantial #lithium potential. Rock chip assays, including 1.87% Li2O and 1.69% Li2O at Gemini, affirm its significance, along with findings at Atomic 3 (4.11% Li2O) and Voyager (3.29% Li2O). The results suggest a lithium-bearing pegmatite dyke swarm. Learn more: https://loom.ly/9odwYR8 #WIN #WidgieNickel #ASX

Steven R. Izatt's abstract on the #greenrefining of #iridium is below. He will be presenting on Tuesday, June 11th at the IPMI 48th Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida (https://lnkd.in/eZ2ff2S5). Green Refining of Iridium Using Molecular Recognition Technology™ (MRT™) Abstract Iridium refining using MRT™ is based on green chemistry and green engineering principles. Very little energy is used, minimal waste is produced and simple reagents are utilized in a closed system. MRT™ will be contrasted and compared to traditional refining techniques for iridium, which consume large amounts of energy, generate substantial waste and use harsh chemicals with environmental and safety hazards.
