The Boston Foundation has launched the next round of Safety Net Grants! Safety Net Grants provide an opportunity to provide much-needed general operating funds to nonprofits addressing critical, essential needs for people throughout the region. It is important for folks to read the new eligibility requirements and funding considerations. The deadline to apply is September 26th 2023 at 11:59pm. Quick Overview: -New grant commitments are $50,000 two-year general operating support grants, paid in two equal annual installments of $25,000 -We are prioritizing eligible organizations that are in our catchment area with a focus on the communities of greatest need as defined by the supplemental poverty measure (SPM) We are especially interested in organizations that are: -BIPOC-led and/or whose leadership reflects the demographic composition and lived experiences of the communities they serve; -Meeting the needs of seniors and people with physical disabilities; -Providing food, fuel and shelter support You can register for our Safety Net Grants information session on September 12th from 1pm-2pm EST here: https://lnkd.in/gA3A5pSN

Communities are the favorite topic at ShoTam. This time, in partnership with the Ukraine Crisis Media Center and supported by the USAID DOBRE Program, we are working on an important project about how change is being made at the local level. In "It's good where action is taken" (Добре там, де діють) project we showcase successful cases of community development and resilience in wartime conditions. By doing so, we spread best practices and tools among communities, encouraging them to adopt successful experiences, foster recovery, and drive development within their communities. Erin Dysart, Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives at EGA member Meyer Memorial Trust, reflects on the Trust’s learning journey to develop a multifaceted approach to grantmaking rooted in justice. Erin shares three key learnings from the Trust on grantmaking to advance justice: ⚖Justice demands redress and repair: There must be explicit funding strategies to support redress, repair, and thriving in Black and Native communities. As well as integration, belonging, and thriving in immigrant communities. ⚖Justice requires shifting power: Support long-term power building in communities to build capacity for collective action. ⚖Justice requires collaboration: Collaboration amongst funders, communities, and neighbors are crucial to dismantling systems of oppression which thrive on division and isolation. Congratulations Saint-Preux Wilner Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) have proven to be powerful tools for the economic and social development of rural communities. They offer an accessible, solidarity-based savings and credit platform, fostering entrepreneurship, empowerment and economic resilience. Through their ability to strengthen community solidarity and promote financial inclusion, AVECs make a significant contribution to improving living conditions in rural areas. In the face of these challenges, AVEC have demonstrated a great capacity for adaptation and resilience, implementing effective strategies for risk management, capacity building and mobilizing additional resources. Their success is based on active member participation, democratic governance and commitment to common community goals. The future of AVECs in rural communities looks promising, provided these associations continue to adapt to economic and social changes and benefit from the support of external partners. By strengthening their resilience and extending their reach, AVECs can continue to play a key role in the sustainable development of rural areas, paving the way for shared prosperity and greater social cohesion.
