#Durapower is proud to power part of PSA Singapore’s Tuas Port’s Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) fleet. A key component of the world’s first fully automated and digitalized port is the use of AGVs to optimise the operational flow of containers between the wharf and yard. Cutting emissions by almost half, the electric AGV fleet is also key in helping Tuas Port to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The success of major port operations is dependent on the ability for ports to efficiently move containers to their assigned locations in support of busy vessel schedules. Switching from operations dependent on fossil-fuel powered, human-driven vehicles to automated operations can enhance operations efficiency and sustainability. No reflection on the excellent reporting from Smart Maritime Network (one of my favourite sources), but might the headline be slightly misleading here? Reading between the lines, it's fairly clear that it's the voyage optimisation function which is delivering the bulk of the fuel reduction, not the autonomous element. It would be interesting to isolate the parsing error between an optimised voyage executed autonomously, versus one executed by "conventional" navigating officers, though. I recall that some data exists showing that human error is a significant factor in the quality of noon reporting, when compared to automated reports.
