The #Manufacturing landscape is evolving rapidly. Staying competitive is essential. Explore our latest white paper to understand how integrating PTC Windchill, a PTC Technology #PLM,#ERP, and MES systems can pave the way to a more efficient and connected future. PLM to ERP: ERP to PLM The data that is therefore needed from PLM is mainly high-level information (material master data, bill of material, purchase specifications, etc.), not technical data. Sending a manufactured item from PLM to ERP should provide all the definition needed to auto-cost the item in ERP (if using MPM and process planning) and to send the item BOM for cost and routing information from the process plan for set-up/logistics. ✅ Automated item setup from PLM (manufactured items) ✅ Semi-automated item from PLM (purchased items) ✅ AML, part BOM revisions, lifecycle states, and respective engineering change orders ✅ Engineering BOM to manufacturing BOM, when an organization-specific part should be used (date and time) ✅Product top level assembly (TLA) BOM customer-provided details, weight, volume for packship-freight cost decisions ✅ In a CTO business model, you might want to transfer your overloaded process plans to ERP to enable more advanced planning options (for example to automate the component allocation process). ✅ ERP to PLM – ERP feeds cost information to PLM #PLM #digitaltransformation #Windchill #MPMLink #PDMLink #WIndchillCustomization

Understanding the differences between PLM and ERP PLM (Product Lifecycle Management): - Focuses on design data, document, project, and change management. - Manages workflows, product configurations, and system engineering. - Essential for technical publications and product development processes. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning): - Focuses on inventory management, plant maintenance, and purchasing. - Manages financials, work order planning, and manufacturing resource planning. - Essential for supply chain, sales distribution, and overall business operations. Common Functions: - Items, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), BOMs (Bill of Materials), substitutes, alternates, BOM effectivity, routing, cost, and supplier items. Knowing when to use PLM vs. ERP can optimize your processes and improve efficiency across the board! some good advice for those embarking on thier #digitaltransformation .
Thought Leader | Digital Transformation Influencer with 20+ years’ experience supporting digital transformation in Engineering and Manufacturing.
What is #digitaltransformation you ask? I get this question a lot. Take this illustration, this is the classic example of what I call a human interface. A person that is entering information from one system into another manually or maybe semi-manual (spreadsheet), GASP! Have joking called this "swivel chair" engineering. As the engineer is swiveling between the #plm system and the #erp system. Of course this can be any two major systems. Then bring in some digital transformation and a connecting that with your #digitalthread. Now if you have also done your homework, hopefully the engineer's job is done in PLM and the process can fully handover to the next system and other person/role. In this step you know you haven't done a complete job designing your digital thread, if that same engineer must still do work in both systems, for the same data. Sounds simple right?!
