You know how I know it's a bad year for sawmill closures? When I have to shrink my PowerPoint font to fit the list of closures on a single slide... For 2024 announcements, we're now approaching 1.6 BBF of indefinite and/or permanent closures. That's about 2% of the North American softwood lumber capacity base. Sadly, more closures are likely coming as the pricing environment remains weak and duties on Canadian softwood lumber rise from their current combined 8% levels later this month. Just a brutal year for sawmills in North America, there's no other way to put it. #Lumber #Curtailments #Construction #Fastmarkets
