Advanced Construction Robotics Inc. has announced that its rebar-tying robot, previously available only through a robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) model, is now available for purchase. The Pittsburgh-based company is currently taking orders for TyBOT 3.0, with deliveries set to begin in the first quarter of 2025. Stephen Muck, founder and executive chairman of ACR, stated, “Our journey in automating construction equipment is more than just growth for ACR; it’s a groundbreaking change for the construction industry. Making TyBOT available for sale shows our dedication to delivering disruptive technologies that enhance how construction is done, boosting efficiency, safety, and innovation across more applications.” ACR highlighted that tying rebar for reinforced concrete, such as in bridge construction, is often a tedious and risky job. BROKK reveals next-gen demolition robots Brokk has launched a new generation of demolition of robots, unveiling the SmartPower+ range at the 2024 World of Concrete exhibition, currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. Comprising five models in total, Brokk’s SmartPower+ machines are said to offer increased durability, more uptime and greater operational control. Martin Krupicka, CEO of Brokk Group, said: ‘’We are thrilled to introduce Brokk SmartPower+ and a new generation of demolition robots that redefine the demolition landscape. “This innovative advancement reflects Brokk’s dedication to pushing the limits and providing operators cutting-edge machines that surpass expectations.” Standout features of the Brokk 300+, 500+, 70+, 170+ and 200+ SmartPower machines include a re-engineered body and components that have resulted in 87% fewer cables and connectors. According to the Sweden-based manufacturer, which is displaying its 170+ and 200+ models at World of Concrete, this means the SmartPower+ robots benefit from fewer weak points, easier servicing and a longer lifespan. “Brokk’s SmartPower+ generation is much smarter too,” said the manufacturer, “alerting the operator about any unwanted power supply or machine statuses, further contributing to an increase in uptime and overall reliability.” Brokk has also reinvigorated how the demolition robots operate, by introducing a new lightweight control box that can be recharged faster than the company’s previous generation of control box units. Weighing less than 3 kg (6.5 lbs), the SmartPower+ control box has been ergonomically designed, with intuitive, easier-to-reach features, simple settings and a tilted joystick, which together make it easier to operate. Brokk said: “This new generation of robots elevates the operator-machine interaction, focusing on added intelligence for the benefit of the operator. “Visual status updates through incremental light indicators allow the operator to focus their attention on the demolition work at hand while simultaneously monitoring the status of the machine. 𝐈𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐥 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 British engineers from the University of Bristol have presented a new development - a 96-gram snail robot capable of moving on walls and other vertical surfaces without leaving traces. The robot's design consists of a 50mm-wide suction cup, a flexible polyurethane body, and a blend of silicone and hydrophilic polymer. To move on surfaces, the bots use the same principle as ordinary snails, but only instead of slime of living creatures, the metal twin uses ordinary water. "Snail" can carry a payload of up to 200 g and support a weight of up to 1 kg. In tests, the robot successfully climbed vertical surfaces made of glass and painted metal at a speed of 19 mm/sec. It was also able to rotate in place and move upside down. The authors of the project note that the time of work of robots in real conditions on a single battery charge will be about an hour. It is planned that in the future they can be used for inspection and maintenance of wind turbine blades, inspection of ship hulls and washing skyscraper windows. #archtown #robotics
