Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) lending to skilled nursing facilities is expected to increase in 2024. Analysts theorize these predicted increases is an indicator of financial health and expected growth for the senior living industry in the near future. Citing increases in Medicaid rates that are more reflective of actual costs, nursing homes will be more appealing for merger and acquisition activity, as well as permanent financing. #LTC #SNF #HUD Read more it in this Skilled Nursing News article: https://lnkd.in/gaW7GzK2

The UK is set to spend over £9bn this year on PFI contracts – and a total of £48bn in the next five years. This level of spending will continue until we see the first peak in contracts expiring around 2030. Expiry will see assets worth £14bn (their original capital value) transferring back to public ownership. The pressures on schools’ and local authorities’ budgets will be felt across the public sector over the next few years. As contracts enter the expiry phase, costs increase with millions of pounds added to major contracts – the biggest of which are for the NHS. https://lnkd.in/eRqNX7Br #PFI #NHS #PFIcontracts #Localgov #Betteroutcomes

So which local NHS systems are arguably THE BEST to work with from a FINANCIAL standpoint? 👇 There are lots of factors that play into this, but a great indicator is based on recent (old CCG) debt forgiveness, based on financial performance, and proportion of debt - as it indicates being financially stable. Here are the 11 local areas that are NOT servicing an additional debt to NHS England. Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire ICB Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB Birmingham and Solihull ICB Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly ICB Gloucester ICB Lincolnshire ICB North West London ICB North Central London ICB Somerset ICB Suffolk, NE Essex ICB Again there are lots of factors and some of these areas may have all kinds of other challenges and dynamics, but purely financially, these might be a good starting point. IF you'd like me to share the next tier of local areas then reshare, like or comment to show it's of value.

My editorial in the Hartford Business Journal on hospital real estate investment trusts (REITs) came out today (9/3/24). This is a hot topic in the hospital industry. There are a couple of for-profit hospital chains that are experiencing serious financial stress who sold their real estate assets to REITs. These hospitals received a significant cash infusion for those assets and now pay rent on these facilities. The average rent for these for-profits is under 10 percent and in some cases as low as 7 percent. The average rent as a percentage of revenue for retail industries is between 7 and 10 percent. The rent is not the problem that pushed these institutions over the edge. The problems are reimbursement to hospitals from Medicaid and Medicare and poor management. https://lnkd.in/dabznZA5 #drfredmckinney #hospitalREITs #HBJ

Interesting read.
As many of us know, recruitment and retention of EMS professionals is a real challenge, and investing in this workforce is needed to ensure we have highly skilled teams who are ready to respond to emergencies and provide life saving care. This week, I was thrilled to see Acting Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen announce a state program that will provide $1 million per year for the next three years to reimburse EMS workers’ training expenses and EMS agencies’ recruitment and retention efforts. Prior to this, financial support options for EMTs and paramedics were limited since most training programs fall outside of traditional tuition reimbursement or student loan eligibility. We are excited about this increased state funding, which will further support the critical role EMS professionals play in health care.
