Revolutionizing AMRs with Process Awareness and 5G Connectivity. Another trial of the North node. 🚚💡
📑 Traditionally, Automated Guided Vehicles (#AGV) have been automated to transport goods along predefined paths in factory shop floors. Yet, our vision extends beyond this norm. We're integrating process-specific insights gathered by #5G from various data collection points across the shop floor. This rich data is then channeled to the edge-cloud continuum, where Autonomous Mobile Robots' (AMR) decision-making abilities evolve continuously. Given the dynamic nature of the shop floor, we are focusing on enabling AMRs to react to unexpected changes in the environment and to provide the shortest, safest paths for delivery.
The benefits of 5G outweigh any potential drawbacks, such as industry resistance to adopt it because of current Wi-Fi-enabled AMRs. It features improved high-precision location, seamless handover between 5G cells (even from interior to outdoor), network slicing, safety certification, and integration possibilities with different moving objects.
📡🔍 The trial is built on the technology pillars of Zero-SWARM, which include edge computing, 5GNPN, closed control loops, real-time data collecting, monitoring. This innovative use case will be implemented at the test field of the Production Technology Center (PTZ) Berlin possibly with the assistance of testbeds from close outside industries[RM1] . This configuration offers strong cross-domain applicability validation in production and logistics settings.
By infusing AMRs with real-time process awareness, we're empowering them to make smarter decisions, thanks to the robust data and intelligence infrastructure facilitated by 5GNPN and the edge-cloud continuum.
