As I wrap up my product management internship with Restaurant365, I want to share some things I learned as well as give a special thanks to Henry E., Braden Williams, Mark Calvillo, and the intern team at R365. Each of them were patient, available, and extremely talented. They all contribute so much the culture at R365. The following are three things I learned that helped me be more productive: 1. Embrace Ambiguity and Get to Work - In school, I got really good at utilizing a rubric. With it, I know exactly what needs to be done, and I can expect a letter grade to validate my work. But many of the problems we face in business and life don't come with a rubric. Solving these problems efficiently adds tremendous value. At times during my internship, I struggled to get moving because I couldn't see the end result. Once I decided to just move forward, even if I had didn't know what would come of it, everything changed for the better. 2. Fail - As I gained this bias for action, I failed quite a few times. My work was underwhelming or data was inaccurate, and this lead to a lot of uncomfortable moments for me. I was constantly apologizing. However, I was reminded that there was no need keep apologizing. Making mistakes is part of the process, and it's how everyone else learned what they know. Be grateful for feedback, make necessary changes, and move forward. I gained more confidence in my work and I am now proud of the way my projects turned out. Additionally, I highly recommend the TED Talk by Mark Rober called The Super Mario Effect. 3. Finally, Love Your Product and Your Customers - One regret of mine is that I didn't fully understand R365's product before I started. Many employees at R365 worked in restaurants prior to getting into tech and their genuine care and concern for everyday restaurant workers made them seemingly unstoppable. My love for it certainly grew each day as I interacted with them. Also, big thanks to the BYU Strategy program and Sandbox for giving me an awesome foundation by teaching frameworks and skills that have helped me each day. I am extremally optimistic about what's to come!

Love these words! One of the things I stress to the team is to have maniacal curiosity and to always push for the why behind everything. You definitely grew that muscle while you were here and nailed the why behind your work. As a bonus, you fed the curiosity of the team and their need for more of what you produced. Thanks for choosing us and being part of the R365 Product team. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

This post had us 🥲 So grateful we got to know you and welcome you to the team this summer, Dylan! Thank you for everything.
