"The attorney general, Michael Daley, said he was concerned the tougher bail laws would result in more young people being locked up but the government had no choice. “If there was another option available to us today, to keep these children safe, we’d take it. But there isn’t,” he said." ____________________________________________ Can someone please direct the Government to the abyss where the decades of endless amounts of research, data, reports, advocacy and evidence based practice are held? Perhaps there might be at least ONE other option available for them to consider. #systemschange #youth #injustice #sameoldstory #accountability #earlyintervention #placebased #solutions https://lnkd.in/gzeVnuZt

California AB 3070 needs to be a wake-up call to policing nationally. There will be more negative consequences while efforts continue to have it repealed. It’s also a lesson that no one can cure fabricated discrimination by codifying authentic discrimination. #CommunityPolicing #LawEnforcement #PublicSafety #PoliceLeadership #CrimePrevention https://lnkd.in/eWNp38Xg

This is one of those important stories that goes under-the-radar with many readers unfortunately. Though it could cost taxpayers a lot of money and legal concessions that they'll never get to know about. Also extremely important 1A issues here. Should county judges get to decide what information taxpayers get to know about "confidential" settlements using public money? This is relevant in Falls Township where there are a half dozen active pending lawsuits against the township filed by current and former police officers. As one public records attorney told me potential embarrassment isn't considered "good cause" to seal a court document. #Settlement #LawEnforcement #PublicRecords #FirstAmendment #ConstitutionalRights #PublicAccountability https://lnkd.in/g9rVmfju
State says 'confidential' Falls police settlement is public. Why can't we see it yet?

It will be interesting to see if similar actions will occur in other states? Law enforcement shall always be in communicating with their communities so we are aware of their concerns and are aware of what are some topics that they feel should be addressed by public safety. However, the extreme vast majority of the laws that municipal and county Law Enforcement Officers are codified as state laws. In addition, municipal, county, and state Law Enforcement Officers are given Peace Officer certification and the authority enforce laws by the state, not individual city, town or county governing bodies. The purpose for this is that their is uniformity. If local jurisdictional governing bodies have the ability to say what laws or police actions are allowed you create an atmosphere where as laws are not equally applicable or enforced from one location to the next. This can create confusion and a major source of conflict between the police and citizen who have been stopped for committing a violation in one community under the belief that since their home community doesn't enforce that law no jurisdiction does. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policedepartment #policechief #cops #cop #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #fedarlagent #policeman #p1 #iacp #calchiefs #cpoa #prosecution #prosecutor #prosecutors #crime #criminaljustice #crimnallaw #crimes #crimnaljusticesystem #law #criminals #criminal #communitysafety #publicsatey #brokenwindows #drugs #narcotics #copscountpolicematter #policing #policematter #policingmatters #safestreets #commonsense #safety #crisis #failedagenda #consequences #backtheblue #accountability #accountabilitymatters #districtattorney #sfpd #theft #retailtheft #violence #crimeprevention #lawandorder #proactive #qualityoflife #leadership #leadershipmatters #leadershipdevelopment #leadershiplessons #leaders #statelaws https://lnkd.in/dPvuFGBh

Absolutely you need to find out who your people are to serve them. How best to meet their needs. How do you think that you can do this effectively without one having all their perspectives included in this vision going forward. We need all races, cultures, and religions to be seen from all sides. we need the perspective of people so damaged by people who should have protected them to be raised up and given their power and voice back. These are the people that will change the world to make it more deserving of them and most importantly safer for their culture or race. We forgot American strengths, values, and the new definition of american culture is this. The power lies in the people that were made to feel less all their life and still figured out how to push themselves to get their voices heard. We forget that we are quite literally all people, races, and cultures. We will never be how we were or the people we were when our ancestors showed up with the intent to carve out their safety and sanctuary in this country. Simply because we have forgotten that all of us must be included in our vision for the future, acknowledge our past pain as people either oppressed, misunderstood, or survivors. Anyone in the military or law enforcment now are not just soldiers or law enforcement members or even emergency responders. We are all just people seeking what our ancestors brought us here to find. Let's figure our how to be nice, empathetic, and better for those same ancestors. The past will never break out of its repeating cycles unless we forcibly re-direct the tractory. There is enough of us now that we can do this. Stay focused. Stay sharp. Stay brave. We are all one race. Literally, we are all humans or homosapiens. Let's all chill and realize that. We all deserve equitable treatment. Equality is a joke or maybe just an outdated sentiment. We are to modern now. We must accept our differences, our past, and seek the future we all deserve. We can do this guys. We are the change we need in the world and we are taking it. Keep pushing. ♥️♥️♥️✌️

Passionate advocate and nonprofit leader with 15+ years of experience in leading and enhancing programs, spearheading innovative projects, and driving community engagement.
Whenever I lobby for a bill, I'm expected to have hard data to back up my position. Apparently, police and prosecutors don't belive they should be held to the same standard. As usual, all they offer is anecdote. At the very least, we should look a comparison of the clearance rate (for cases where the suspect is a juveniles) before the law passed and now. This would not only inform the debate over this policy, but it would also illuminate how few crimes are actually solved. For example, for the period 2017-2022 the clearance rate for juvenile cases in Maryland ranged from 8.3% to 13.8% (by comparison, the clearance rate for all crime during the same period ranged from 19% to 27.4%). So, is the Child Interrogation Protection Act hampering law enforcement or is it being used as a scapegoat for a larger problems in our criminal justice system?

Why would an Albuquerque City Councilmember advise the City of Phoenix to sit down, shut up, and sign the DOJ consent decree? Fear. Fear of the US Department of Justice. Fear of the for-profit monitor and fear of the federal judge overseeing the Albuquerque consent decree. Once a city signs a consent decree, the city's police department and the city's budget are owned and controlled by a federal judge and a for-profit monitor. The city must keep their overseers happy to have any hope of reaching compliance with the requirements in the consent decree. Only the judge and monitor can find compliance. There is no neutral arbiter and no way to appeal or challenge their decisions. DOJ is desperate for consent decree success stories and so they have randomly decided that Albuquerque and Seattle are in partial compliance with their consent decrees. DOJ is not releasing these cities from federal oversight, but they are giving them a longer leash. The police departments and public safety have suffered greatly in Seattle and Albuquerque while spending years travelling down the road of federal mandated reform. During its 12+ year consent decree, Seattle PD has had 7 police chiefs. The last three chiefs were hand-picked by DOJ and the last two have resigned in disgrace. Seattle botched the 2020 protests and is facing billions of dollars in lawsuits from the businesses and neighborhoods that they abandoned. The last Chief and the Department are facing multiple lawsuits from female officers for gender discrimination. Crime rates are high, response times are long, staffing is at record lows, while officer morale and recruitment are almost nonexistent. https://lnkd.in/dNP8YBhA Albuquerque was placed under a consent decree because of the high number of officer involved shootings. After a decade under federal oversight, these shootings are now at record levels. Nevertheless, the DOJ and the monitor are finding the police department in compliance with most of the consent decree requirements. https://lnkd.in/dZGSe4i4 The Albuquerque City Councilmember believes that DOJ is like the Borg and so "resistance is futile." However, Phoenix has not yet been assimilated by the consent decree industrial complex, so there is still hope. #police #policereform #policemisconduct #policeaccountability #policeofficer #policeofficers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policedepartment #policechief #criminaljustice #criminaljusticereform #doj #departmentofjustice #attorneygeneral #civilrights #constitution #constitutionalrights #publicsafety #citycouncil #federalgovernment #federal #phoenix #phoenixaz #phoenixarizona #arizona #seattle #albuquerque #newmexico #washingtonstate #washington #seattlewa https://lnkd.in/dZ9-phAk
