Scanning chrome or dark, shiny things is notoriously difficult, hence the plethora of available scanning sprays, homemade or otherwise. When we’re scanning cars for the Lightpoint database, our current go-to is AESUB Blue, but every now and again a dealer gets squeamish about us spraying a car with a visible film, even though it generally vanishes in a few minutes. Additionally, the spray pattern is visible in the scan data. So, we were keen to experiment with AESUB's Transparent product. We scanned the rear bumper of a 2018 Toyota Tundra (a FINE specimen) with Leica's RTC360. Sunny SoCal day, one scan location, three scans: no spray, AESUB Blue, AESUB Transparent. Here is my new project's simulation on gazebo and viz using ros XML. I designed the model in fusion 360 and created the xacro file and edited the launch file to launch in gazebo with LIDAR and camera interface . It is controlled by tele operation using keyboard . The video compares the Leica BLK 360 G2 and Riegl VZ-400 laser scanners, as result deviation between point clouds approximately 1-4 mm. This is a good result, considering that Leica has an 3D accuracy 4mm/10m and Riegl 4mm/100m. #riegl #leica #pointclouds #lidar #tls #laserscanning

At UAS, we adopt a unique workflow of combining a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) and a handheld laser scanner to measure and capture environments in 3D with speed and accuracy. While a tripod-based TLS can capture 3D data at accuracies down to the millimeter, it is slow to operate and can be difficult to set up in space-constraint areas. On the other hand, a handheld laser scanner may offer lower accuracy (1-3 cm) than a TLS, but captures 3D data nearly 10 times faster and can access even the tightest of spaces.
