It’s the same thing with finance and philanthropy operations. 📢 Finance and Philanthropy Operations are not the same I saw a job posting recently that was Sr. Director of Finance and Philanthropy Operations. → Those are two completely roles. → With two completely different functions. As I read the job description, all finance related: → Manage the chart of accounts → Manage the gift funds. → Manage the endowments. → Do financial forecasting. The very last bullet felt like a P.S. → → Manage the fundraising system and train users. 100%, I guarantee you will get a finance person in that role. Your database just became a financial accounting database instead of a fundraising database. You just lost your donor centricity. According to the state, the IRS's designation of tax-exempt status provides an exemption only from income tax and in no way applies to sales tax. It's a common misconception that nonprofit organizations don't need to pay or collect sales tax - but that's not true! If you're selling, you must collect and remit sales tax, just like any other business. The main exceptions to this are for event tickets benefiting the organization, such as Galas, and membership dues. For events, organizations must apply for the exemption before the date of the event using Form R-1048.
