Inside a unique college program that is completely free ---> CBS News came and filmed our class and made a short video about Bard Microcollege! Bard Microcollege is a tuition-free liberal arts program that comes out of the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI), which has provided free high-quality college education to incarcerated people for over 25 years. BPI is an initiative of Bard College. Bard Microcollege has a broader mission - to provide access to higher education to individuals who traditionally may be left out of the university experience. It operates in coordination with the NY Public Library system. https://lnkd.in/eMpgSTgR You can read a NYTimes article below about BPI and policies around access to higher education for incarcerated people, which was even shared by Barack Obama: https://lnkd.in/euhvSBai https://lnkd.in/e5Ub34ep I've been teaching at Bard Microcollege for one semester and it's been such a pleasure because of the incredible students, faculty, and staff, and because of the strong emphasis on social justice weaved throughout the curriculum. I believe this community-based/microcollege approach can also be a helpful model for solving some of the broader issues that have emerged over the past half-century in higher education: administrative bloat, increasing tuition and student debt, exacerbating inequities in access to education, and decreasing relevance to the real lives of workers. Admissions at Bard Microcollege are open and applications are due April 15! https://lnkd.in/e-7mktu5 Spread the word!
BPI's Bard Microcolleges in NYC were featured on CBS News tonight! Check it out below and help spread the word. Admissions are still open. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g3Gt_-6W #BardatBPL #Microcollege https://lnkd.in/gsnrZ2yS
