Lessons from Orchestrating Dreams: My Year-Long Capstone Journey Part 1/3 As a recent graduate from Arizona State University's College of Music, I'd like to share some key insights from my ambitious capstone project, "Symphony of Dreams." This year-long endeavor not only challenged me as a composer but also as a project manager, collaborator, and problem-solver. Here are the main lessons I learned along the way: 1. Dream Big, but Plan Bigger What started as a modest idea for a small ensemble grew into a full 40-piece orchestra project. This taught me the importance of being flexible with the overall vision while maintaining a solid foundation in planning. As the project scaled up, so did the complexity of logistics, requiring meticulous organization and foresight. 2. Embrace Creative Problem-Solving One of my biggest challenges was recording a full orchestra in a studio designed for smaller ensembles. I overcame this by employing a technique called "striping" - recording each section separately and combining them later. This experience taught me to think outside the box and adapt to limitations creatively. 3. The Power of Collaboration This project brought together nearly 70 people, including volunteer musicians, faculty mentors, and staff. I learned that clear communication, respect for others' time and talents, and fostering a positive environment are crucial for successful collaboration. The diverse perspectives and skills each person brought to the table immensely enriched the final product. "Symphony of Dreams" was released on July 16th, 2024. I invite you to listen and share in the culmination of this incredible journey. #MusicComposition #ProjectManagement #Collaboration #StudentProject #ProfessionalDevelopment

Music business advocate | Helping music companies optimize their data and workflows to ensure top-tier service for artists and songwriters | Passionate about educating on the business of music
I'm teaching a masterclass next month at a music school. As I'm drafting materials, I've been reflecting on how different the business is now from when I was starting out. Here's some wisdom I came up with: 1) Prioritize good quality data, regardless of how creative your role is. 2) There are so many options beyond working for one of the majors. 3) Learn about all the revenue sources beyond streaming. If you had to give a piece of advice to somebody just starting out in the business now, what would it be?

Mixing Hits for Labels and Indie - Working closely with their teams | 250M+ Streams | Music's Future Builder
What’s success as a producer or engineer? This is how I envision success: It is not winning a Grammy. As a mixer, is my willingness to keep pushing the boundaries of quality and creating new “sounds” Making mixes that are louder, cleaner, wider, deeper, and have more emotional impact. It’s not always about what’s popular, It’s a love for redefining the rules of what “sounds good” The best music producers & engineers are the ones who don’t follow the rules. They redefine them. And that’s success to me.
