High-Power Battery Testing Platform Housed within a 42U height rack, the EA BTS 10300 from EA Elektro-Automatik is an advanced test system for the examining and characterisation of electric vehicle (EV) battery packs. This ready-to-use turnkey platform avoids the need for having to implement a costly custom test solution. With a 300kW power rating, it comprises an automated battery cycler and drive cycle simulation mechanisms, plus sophisticated apparatus for conducting insulation resistance tests, pulse testing, etc. Despite all this, it takes up very little space. Tests can be conducted at the cell and at the module level, to ensure that all key operating parameters are within acceptable margins. 1.5kHz data acquisition rates can be benefited from. Up to 2.4kA of current can be supplied and sinked per rack. There is the potential for paralleling multiple racks together - leading to a 3.84MW total testing power capability being attained and current figures reaching 30.7kA. The regeneration function means that power drawn from the grid during testing can be subsequently returned (at up to 96.5% efficiency), so as to minimise wastage. Thermal management costs are also low, as the heat produced is much less than with other systems.
