As a Geoscientist, being able to communicate geology in simple and relatable terms, particularly to non-geologists is a must-have skill. Dr. Haydon Mort has effectively put together a masterpiece course on Geologize Practical Geo-communication 3.0. This course highlights key strategies for effectively communicating geoscience concepts thereby improving geoscience engagements amongst individuals, conquering the popular notion of geoscience being somewhat abstract. It is indeed a privilege to have benefitted from his work. #Geologize #PracticalGeocommunication3.0

iCRAG Funded Investigator Pat Meere from the UCC School of BEES, will lead a €4 million European-wide project aimed at sourcing new mineral deposits to assist the European Union’s climate objectives and targets in the mining of materials within the EU under the HORIZON Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks programme. Studying the movement and interaction of aqueous fluids with rocks in the Earth’s upper crust is fundamental for our understanding of the genesis of critical mineral deposits and of geothermal energy fluid flow systems. With the rapidly increasing global demand for raw materials, the ForMovFluid project will assist the EU in addressing significant challenges regarding its dependencies on access to raw materials. ForMovFluid includes ten European partners and proposes to adopt new and existing laboratory and field techniques in geoscience sub-disciplines to address key knowledge gaps related to fluid flow drivers, pathways, and fluid/rock reactions. The project will also further our understanding of the movement and physio/chemical interaction of aqueous fluids with rocks in a variety of tectonic settings in the Earth’s upper crust, and to establish a long-term pan-sector research network that will go on to contribute to European geofluid research and to underpin Europe’s raw material and geothermal sectors. Since 2015, the Spanish Official Professional Association of Geologists (Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Geólogos - ICOG) has consistently presented comprehensive #geological #policy documents to various political parties and administrations, during national or autonomous communities’ elections. On numerous occasions, the political parties have been invited to the ICOG’s Headquarters in Madrid or to autonomous delegations to engage in seminars and discussions with ICOG members regarding these proposals. Over the previous decade, the list of proposals has been regularly updated to align with the evolving needs of society. This paper focuses on the 2023 version of the proposal, which, even though centred on Spain, can potentially serve as a valuable framework for proposals in any other country. Industry, Technical, and Scientific Abstracts are welcome. Hans Merensky discovered the first economic platinum deposit in South Africa, on 15th August 1924, at Mooihoek in the Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Complex. In 2024 one hundred years later, the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) believes that this is a milestone worth celebrating. To honor Hans Merensky, platinum, and all things Bushveld Complex related, the GSSA is organizing a two-day scientific/technical conference (including a poster session as well as a trade show). 🎉 NEW REPORT 📖 Geochemistry of drill core samples from the Stuart Shelf region, South Australia - Data release 2 🙂 D.C. Champion, D.L. Huston, E. Bastrakov, A. Fabris, C. Krapf, S. Gilmore, J. Byass, I. Long and S. Webber 🏦 Published by Geoscience Australia 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gTP4JdA2 The 'Geochemistry for Basin Prospectivity' project is part of Geoscience Australia's Exploring for the Future (EFTF), focusing on studying Australian basins with potential base metal mineral systems. In collaboration with the GSSA, this project investigates the baseline geochemistry of the Stuart Shelf and complements the GSSA-CSIRO project 'Sedimentary Copper Mineral Systems of the Stuart Shelf (read more: https://ow.ly/MULa50PLpIL). This report discusses all the final results from the project, and releases all the geochemical data collected from across the Stuart Shelf. In total, 888 drill core samples from 22 drillholes were analysed, targeting units from the Neoproterozoic sedimentary succession and underlying basement units. This data indicates the Wallaroo Group, Donington Suite, units of the Callanna Group, and the Tapley Hill Formation have good source rock potential with regards to sedimentary base metal systems. #SedCu #Copper #StuartShelf #EFTF #GeoscienceAustralia #Geoscience #Geology #Geochemistry #Minerals #MineralSystems #CSIRO

🌍 What an incredible experience attending the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) International Conference and Exhibition 2024 in our beautiful country Oman! The event brought together leading minds in geology, geophysics, and energy to discuss the future of our industry, and it was a privilege to be part of such an innovative gathering. Some of the key themes that stood out: 🔹 Decarbonization and Carbon Capture: Invaluable insights into the latest advancements in geological carbon storage techniques, vital to achieving a sustainable future. 🔹 Cutting-Edge Technologies: Learned about new innovations in subsurface imaging, reservoir characterisation, and energy resource management. 🔹 Collaborative Spirit: The exchange of ideas with fellow geologists, researchers, and industry leaders was truly inspiring. There’s so much momentum in the push toward a low-carbon future, and it’s clear that geoscientists will play a critical role. I believe carbon mineralization can be a core part of this low-carbon future, and I look forward to future discussions where #mineralisation can play a fuller role alongside more established solutions. Huge thanks to everyone who shared their expertise and to the AAPG team for organising the event! #AAPGICE2024 #Geology #CarbonCapture #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Decarbonization #InnovationInGeoscience #OmanGeology
