USP Viable Sampling: Taking Control for Optimal Results   The familiar adage, "if you want something done right, do it yourself," holds true, especially when it comes to viable sampling in pharmacy certification. Having been a certifier in a previous role, I understand the skepticism surrounding in-house sampling due to concerns like conflicts of interest and busy pharmacy employees. However, as a current pharmacy representative, I find myself questioning the necessity of outsourcing viable sampling. Here's my perspective:   Cost Savings: Whether you fully bring viable sampling in-house or adopt a hybrid model with an Environmental Lab, substantial savings of over 66% in annual viable sampling costs can be achieved. Traditionally, viable sampling constituted a significant portion of certification expense. Training of In-House Staff: Education for your staff is readily accessible, from consulting services to SAAS programs like Pharmacy Stars Compounding 360. The learning curve is remarkably short, and your staff can be up and operational within hours. https://lnkd.in/gUiVYMDa Surface and Air Sampling: Conducting both surface and air sampling in-house is feasible. Acquiring an air sampler, either through collaboration with a lab or purchasing your own (around $2000.00), is a viable option. If you need recommendations for labs, feel free to ask, and I can provide contacts. Quality of Service: Ownership empowers you to dictate how viable sampling is conducted and by whom. This eliminates uncertainties such as the technician's whereabouts, the last location of the company vehicle, equipment cleanliness, decontamination procedures, and storage conditions that may impact sample integrity. Taking control mitigates the risk of various factors leading to potentially erroneous results. Contamination Control: Investigating and controlling contamination becomes more manageable when you eliminate variables as outlined in the Quality of Service section. By taking charge of viable sampling, you not only enhance cost-effectiveness and streamline training but also gain control over the entire process, ensuring a higher quality of service and robust contamination control measures.
