Heres an idea. It's not shifting left you are looking out to do, but continuous testing. To have a corresponding testing activity in each phase of development. Sure, you can call it shifting left, but if we talk about shifting left we need to clarify that we are not trying to move testing from 'right' to 'left'. Rather to expand our reach to be able to test and evaluate throughout. Maybe it should be called reaching left. Sometimes we reach left, sometimes right and sometimes we are just reaching out.

I cannot tell you the number of times we'd be in a backlog refinement and the PO would say "Alright, here is how this is going to work" and I or another member of QA would point out "No, can't do that because we have a FTUE that plays then". We had to fight to get into the strategy conversations during sprint planning with engineers about how they planned to implement something and almost immediately, we were pointing out things like "Make sure the priority on that popup is high enough to show over this other one that goes at the same time" or "You can't remove that piece of functionality because this other feature hooks into it." Involve QA early and often, and the reason is pretty simple when you think about it, but really changed my outlook in regards to my role on the team when a former lead of mine pointed it out to me. Everyone on a software development team is trying to build something, but not QA. The mentality and process of quality assurance are inherently destructive. It's our job to break things. As such, we look at products from an almost polar opposite point of view to everyone else on a project. We are cynics and realists in all the best ways, and, if you empower and respect us, you'll also be hard pressed to find someone on the team more driven to make sure the product is as close to perfect as it's likely ever going to get.

This is the second time this week I’ve heard about “shift left” with regards to getting quality professionals invoiced early in the process. I, and many others, have advocated and done this for years. It’s often been difficult to implement initially, but once implemented, it helps immensely. From dreaming of banking to shaping the digital world 😍, here's Hashmi's journey of becoming a QA Lead at Anchanto, and loving every bug-free moment of it. ❤️ "When I was a child, my dream was to become a bank employee, just like my mom. But as I grew up, my interests shifted towards pursuing a career in IT, particularly in the field of engineering. Before joining Anchanto, I worked in several MNCs across different domains. In my previous role, I served as a QA lead, where I handled various responsibilities like resource management, effort estimation, capacity planning, task allocation, test plan and test report preparation, and monitoring sprint activities end-to-end to ensure timely completion without any roadblocks. What really drew me to my current role is the fact that testers should think beyond the obvious and have a deep understanding of the entire project flow. A QA's role is crucial in ensuring a reliable product is delivered to the customer. As a Lead QA Engineer at Anchanto, I work closely with the Digital Shelf and Control Tower teams, managing teams and QA capacity planning for each sprint. I ensure that our QA sprint activities result in a bug-free product and an outstanding user experience. One of the highlights of working at Anchanto is witnessing how a product is built from the ground up and enhanced based on customer requirements in the current market trends. I've had the opportunity to learn various e-commerce concepts while working here, and the flexible and transparent work environment has been another standout feature for me. Outside of work, I'm passionate about traveling, especially to the mountains. I also love watching movies and TV shows, particularly in the thriller genre, and attending musical concerts. At home, we have a few pets, including rabbits, dogs, and hamsters - I enjoy spending time with them too. Lately, I'm exploring the world of organic farming and trying to grow vegetables. If I were to give advice to someone starting in this field, I'd emphasize the importance of hard work, commitment, and passion in your work. These qualities are key, and when you have them, everything else falls into place. QA professionals should always consider all edge cases, and staying updated with the latest automation technologies is a significant advantage in a QA career.
