SR 3, Chico Creek and Tributary - Removing Fish Barriers, from a surveyor's POV: As a surveyor, you spend most days outdoors. The locations frequently change, and you get to explore different terrains. Recently, our survey crews headed to Bremerton, WA, to work on the WSDOT design-build project, Chico Creek. PACE’s engineering team is providing various services for the project, but for the designs to be constructed properly- our survey crews had to step in! PACE's surveyors used a 3D mobile scanner to map 2.6 miles of roadway hardscape. We used the scanner on land to help our mobile unit focus on important areas along a state route. Then, our crews coordinated with the wetland biologist to integrate their mapping data into PACE's base model with a one-foot contour interval digital terrain model (DTM). Another crucial part of a construction project is the construction staking. Construction staking involves providing dimensional control at all stages of construction work. It ensures that the construction aligns with the intended design. Surveyors use reference points and markers to guide the construction and give guidance to builders during construction.
