For the first time, EAH Housing is celebrating King Kamehameha Day on June 11, 2024. Our offices are closed today in honor of this culturally significant holiday. Established in 1871 by King Kamehameha V to honor Kamehameha the Great, this is the first holiday of Hawaiʻi’s Kingdom, and it has been celebrated since Hawaiʻi became a US state in 1959. Fulfilling a prophecy of uniting the Hawaiian Islands, King Kamehameha was a visionary leader whose legacy continues to inspire us all. Cherished traditions include the King Kamehameha Floral Parade and draping his statues with floral leis. The Honolulu statue is adorned with leis up to 30 feet long, and the ritual requires many volunteers. #HappyKamehamehaDay #KingKamehameha #Hawaii #EAHHousing #AffordableHousing

Tartan Today. Tartans continue to be designed and registered with the relevant Scottish authorities, both by large corporations and by private individuals.
Clan tartans are unique patterns associated with Scottish clans and septs. Each clan has its own distinctive tartan pattern, usually consisting of various combinations of colors or overlaid muted checks and stripes. The earliest evidence of tartan patterns dates back to the 16th century. However, most surviving patterns from this period are black and white and it is clear that some tartans were simply territorial rather than specifically belonging to a particular clan. The modern notion of a distinct tartan for each clan emerged in the 18th century and was strongly encouraged by members of the tartan-wearing Kilmarnock Johnnies and later the Highland Societies. The Victorians further populized this notion with Queen Victoria's interest in Scottish heritage. The name 'Önundr,' with its Norse origins, is commonly interpreted to mean "victory of the ancestors." Some sources propose that Windermere might have been referred to as 'Onundr' for a certain period, possibly in honour of the Norse King. Our origins are intricately linked with the picturesque Windermere in the Lake District, and this meaningful association is the inspiration behind our company name, 'Onunda.'
