I know some in my network disagree, but in a government that is by, for, and of the people, it is vital for individuals to express their political beliefs on platforms like LinkedIn. Engaging in political discourse on professional networks fosters a well-informed citizenry, encourages diverse perspectives, and strengthens our democratic processes by ensuring that all voices are heard and considered.

Looking Back: John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs at the All-In Summit 2024
In retrospect, the All-In Summit 2024 discussion between John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs proved to be a thought-provoking exploration of foreign policy, the deep state, and great power politics. Here are some key takeaways:
1️⃣ Deep State Discussion:
Mearsheimer and Sachs examined the concept of the deep state, or the administrative state, and its influence on U.S. foreign policy.
They compared the foreign policies of Republican and Democratic administrations.
2️⃣ Definition and Impact of the Deep State:

The deep state has historically shaped U.S. foreign policy and can influence the decisions of elected leaders.
3️⃣ U.S. Foreign Policy and Power:
Mearsheimer highlighted the U.S.'s aim to maximize global power and its use of liberalism and democracy promotion as foreign policy tools.
The challenges and failures in imposing democracy on other countries were discussed.
4️⃣ Middle East and Iran:
The U.S. and Israeli relations with Iran were analyzed, emphasizing the risks of escalation and nuclear war.
The role of other countries in the region was also considered.

Potential flashpoints in East Asia were identified.
The importance of India in the geopolitical landscape was highlighted.

The Diverging Views of John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs on U.S. Foreign Policy
In global affairs, John Mearsheimer and Jeffrey Sachs offer contrasting perspectives on how the U.S. should engage with the world.
John Mearsheimer: Realist Power Politics
Mearsheimer, a leading realist theorist, argues that international politics is driven by great powers seeking to maximize their security in a competitive, anarchic system.
NATO and Russia: He believes NATO’s expansion provoked Russia, leading to the Ukraine conflict.
U.S. and China: He predicts inevitable conflict between the U.S. and China as they compete for dominance.
Jeffrey Sachs: Diplomatic and Development Focus
Sachs, a renowned economist, champions global cooperation to tackle poverty, climate change, and inequality.
NATO and Diplomacy: Sachs also critiques NATO’s role in the Ukraine crisis but emphasizes diplomacy over military responses.
U.S. and Global Challenges: He advocates for international cooperation on sustainable development and health, rather than geopolitical rivalry.
Mearsheimer sees global politics as a power struggle, while Sachs stresses collaboration for global challenges. Where do you stand?

Jeffrey Sachs said Mearsheimer had the best explanation of the U.S. way of ensuring bulletproof national survival, by never tolerating the emergence of another regional hegemon. It had vanquished four regional hegemons already, Imperial Germany, Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. From time stamp 23:00.
🔶Mearsheimer on why a regional hegemon’s “freedom to roam” is a threat to U.S. survival.
I wonder if this is already too late by over 600 years because Ming Dynasty Emperor Yongle 永乐 sent his Muslim Admiral Zheng He 郑和 to lead a fleet of 200 wind-powered ships and over 200,000 sailors to roam the oceans all the way to Kenya. See Appendices.
✳️ Would Prof. Mearsheimer care to tell us how many colonies did Admiral Zheng He capture for Ming Emperor Yongle with his bluewater fleet in his 7 separate voyages❓
Now we understand why did Prof. Sachs say that Prof. Mearsheimer was trying to predict future China foreign policy by projecting U.S. colonial behaviour on China, rather than by backing up his prediction of China’s future colonial ambitions with evidence❗️
Mearsheimer believes that the international community is an anarchic world, and the best way for the U.S. to ensure its own survival is to squash any other emerging hegemon❗️
Mearsheimer’s trusty Realist International Relations Modelling reveals that China now wants to be the Asian hegemon, and to push the U.S. out of the second island chain.
Once China has secured its borders, it will have freedom to roam just like the U.S., and it will roam far and wide all over the world to promote its ideology which is obviously not Democracy with U.S. characteristics❗️
In contrast, Jeffrey Sachs says China is not a threat, the threat is nuclear war and we are close to one.
He was advisor to both President Gorbachev of the Soviet Union and Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and knew both of them wanted to make peace with the U.S. and Europe but were rebuffed repeatedly.
