Last year I was asked how a campaign I'd worked on used an innovative approach to marketing. “Erm, it didn’t”. I was chatting about the amazing LEJoG Sisters campaign, but innovation was never part of the conversation when devising the campaign. We simply didn’t have the time or budget – 6 months & less that £500 – to risk trying something new and unproven. What we did do was follow good practices. This meant we could: 📖 Tell a clear and consistent story One that was powerful and concise but that we could slightly shift the focus of to work better for different audiences, formats & channels. 🧑🤝🧑 Understand our core audiences We couldn’t chase everyone or be everywhere. So, it was important to know who we needed to reach and where we could reach them. 🛜 Use others’ networks to share our story Building relationships with the right people meant they would tell our story for us. 📰 Create opportunities to share our story Tell ‘em, tell ‘em and tell ‘em again, as the old saying goes. It’s not that people don’t care, but they’re getting on with their own lives. If you want to be allowed into that, you’ve got to keep showing up. It’s easy to be seduced by the idea that innovation equals shiny, new & effective and that following good practices is staid, boring & what everyone else is doing. When they zig, zag and all that. But good practice isn’t the enemy of creativity. It simply provides the foundations for your creative campaign as well as a tried & test way to be effective. That’s why with no money and very little time, our LEJoG Sisters campaign reached 100,000s of people with its message about childhood cancer and helped to smash its fundraising target for Children with Cancer UK along the way. #charity #fundraising #comms #childhoodCancer

Why you should incorporate cause marketing into your 2024 strategy. ⬇️ Cause marketing involves forming a partnership between a company and a nonprofit organization to promote a specific cause. 👉 Think Toms ‘One for One.’ This initiative is built into their business model and directly gives back with every purchase. The Ronald Mcdonald house charity is another great example, along with things like Estée Lauder’s Pink Ribbon campaign in support of Breast Cancer research. The goal is to benefit both the company and the cause, typically through the sale of products or services. It provides a win-win situation for both the company: - Increasing customer loyalty - Positively impacting their reputation - Giving back to society - Supporting important causes And the cause: - Raise awareness - Raise funds - Increase audience - Bring attention to important social and environmental issues Cause marketing can help to bring about positive change in the world while also benefiting businesses. One passion close to my heart is supporting the success of charities, and this is a story that I wanted to share with you. 🔍 Problem: Cancer Research UK faced a challenge despite a branding refresh—donations through their website were dropping significantly. 💡 Solution: Led by the incredible Damian Proctor, by leveraging CRO and A/B Split Testing, the team honed in on the donation process. Applying Anchoring principles, we identified tweaks to donation amounts that would influence donors to donate more per visit to the website. 📈 Results: The impact was remarkable.
