At ELA, our centers are really proud of the work they put into their gardens. Growing food is a great way to introduce our little learners to foundational scientific concepts while gaining an appreciation of nature. In Washington, the students at Kid's Country love seeing how big their plants are getting! #ECE #EarlyChildhoodEducation #STEM

Thinking about a dissertation topic in Forest Schools, teachers views and perceptions. • Do forest schools facilitate behaviour for learning? • What do teachers think about it when going out in allsorts of weather? • How does this affect the child's experience exploring the woodland? • Do we need more forest schools in cities and urbanised areas?

K-12 Math Education Research, digging deep into research and data. SQL | Tableau | Excel | Data Visualization | Python | R | STATA
This is the back of my neighborhood sign. I pulled the weeds and started to work on re-mulching. While I was pulling weeds, I had to really stop to notice what actually wasn’t weeds, but rather perienials coming back for another year! I didn’t want to uproot those- they were happy and growing just fine! And now they are growing even better with the weeds gone. Perhaps this is what we experience when a student has the same teacher several years in a row- or “looping” as it is sometimes called. The teacher is able to see each student and knows when they are about to bloom- and they can “stay put” to do so. However, a student might have a more challenging time working with another teacher in the future after getting used to the previous teacher for 2 years. What do you think of “looping”? Check out this article by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt that explains both pros and cons! https://lnkd.in/giNn3Kbv In my experience, it was a joy to teach children sometimes 2, 3 or 4x before they graduated! The growth they showed during my #informal #anecdotal longitudinal #researchstudy was tangible and noticeable. Looking at this through a #systemsthinking lens, I can say with certainty that they learned many #strategiesforsuccess to take with them to high school. (Many actually took their #prealgebra #algebra binder of notes and told me how much it helped in high school!) Check out my #Research #Portfolio for a picture with my students that I had in homeroom 3x! It was truly and honor to watch them grow. 🌱🌷

Is there a place for ancient forms of community living in modern boarding education? I think that there’s a good deal of similarity between the Rule of St Benedict and the educational ideals of Kurt Hahn, founder of Gordonstoun, and that non-religious schools have a great amount to learn from what is, in action, a 1500 year old guide to living with people you might not like. Now to work out what to do with a 7500 word essay on the subject!
