How to raise a budget for an independent film - without A listers and B listers attached? Call up some influencers. If you’re doing anything in film right now, over the past year or so, you’ve probably come across a plethora of posts and threads written by filmmakers bemoaning the broken model of independent filmmaking today. If you can raise a budget to make a film, how do you even break even once you’ve completed it? Unless you’re friends with an A lister or B lister or your uncle’s a billionaire, you’re pretty much consigned to the graveyard of filmmakers who give up having bet their house on their passion project. So goes the tenor of these observations. But could there be an alternative to this picture of gloom and doom? Recently I came across a filmmaker who not only thinks there is, he’s proving there is. For his film Woodbridge (just out!), writer, producer director Stephen Meier had the inspired idea to cast influencers who could act. Why is that a smart idea? Because these influencers have a big and dedicated following. As showhost of One Good Take, I got together with Stephen to find out more about his business strategy and of course his journey from script to screen and beyond. https://lnkd.in/gUh3zanp #stephenmeier #woodbridge #indiefilm #independentfilm #budgetingindiefilms #raisingfundsforfilms #fundyourindiefilm #newwaysoffundingfilms #onegoodtake #filmpodcast

Well this came faster than I suspected. Showrunner is a new streaming service from a company called Fable Studios. It will allow people to generate and edit shows through simple natural language prompts. It is currently in Alpha and taking a waitlist for beta. Should be noted these are just animated shows to begin. Now everyone will assume this kills off screenwriters and actors but I think the opposite. I think these types of tools will eventually kill off the big movies studios. Brilliant screenwriters and their actor friends will start to be able to produce their own content at a much cheaper price point. Think about it. Why do screenwriters and actors need hollywood? Not for their talent but for their budgets. Interesting time to be alive. What are your thoughts? Would you sign up for this streaming service? Seems like it would be kind of fun to play with if nothing else. Happy Monday. #Innovation #StreamingService #FableStudios #Showrunner #ContentCreation #Screenwriting #Acting #FutureOfFilm #DisruptiveTech #Hollywood #TechTrends #CreativeIndustry #MondayThoughts #Entertainment #TechInnovation #FilmIndustry

Filmmaker I Executive Producer I Director I Screenwriter I Creative Producer | Voice Artist | Cinema Enthusiast
What Anupama Chopra just spelled out is perhaps an open secret for a while. The content world is open for new ideas and new stories. However, there is a catch. While not all the stories that are being written are good or as good as they should be, all the stories that are being made are also not as good as they should be! Especially the Indian content. How many genres do you actually see being made in the Indian Content horizon? I can count them on my fingertips. Are writers not writing anything different? We still lack a system that helps well written scripts reach the right table. Sending cold mails remain cold for a long time and I have experienced it personally. Only when you find a right inside person you receive even a proper feedback on your work. Having said that people who know nothing beyond making films should remain stubborn. Keep writing. Write your own voice. Write what you believe are conflicts for you. Write a short film, a feature outline or a web series plot but keep your brain factory at work. The more detailed your pitch is there is a much better chance to be picked up. There is no substitute to writing.

Hi Isha, the writer should always watch note worthy content being created across the world. Find out great content from peers and watch them on regularly basis, that add to their own learning. Apart, a writer must read classic novels written in both their native language and in English. Apart the writer should start writing, in whatever format they can.

WGA Screenwriter & Life Coach for Writers 👊🏻 I help PRO CREATIVES become PRO SCREENWRITERS 👊🏻 get on WAITLIST for a friendly 1:1 strategy session👇🏻
I saw a YouTube clip of a pro screenwriter suggesting how amateurs can sell their script. He shared the same victim-driven ideas you already know: hope a Hollywood big-shot saves you, enter contests, network, it’s a hard road of misery, blah, blah, blah... In this series of posts, I'll share his exact tips and obliterate each one. And I’ll show you a better way to sell your script that’s easy to follow, inspiring, and effective. 💥 HIS 6TH TIP "Work in the biz to broaden the scope of your contacts" Okay... but what does that mean? What you want is your colleagues (and MOST people in your life) obviously knowing your Superpower so that they can introduce you to their spouse or cousin or roommate who's a producer looking for YOUR specialty as a screenwriter. See the difference in this specificity? And be honest - can you even articulate your Superpower? If not, good luck getting colleagues to know what it is. So what if you could hang with other writers practicing the game of identifying their Superpower and socializing with kindred spirits? THAT'S what we do in UYS at the highest level on the planet. We embrace limitations, learn from them, and we move forward with an easy system so the experience is surprisingly fun and effective. It is a sustainable long-term branding & outreach process with a community of Hollywood contacts cheering you on. ⚡⚡⚡Ready for Hollywood to want you? https://lnkd.in/gdCYMd55 #UnleashYourSuperpower

While sending concepts/scripts to producers over email is one route, it is also essential to network with other industry professionals and if possible get an in-person meeting with either the producer or someone who vets concepts before they even reach the producer. Concepts/scripts sent in through a reference have a better chance of being read. At the same time, keep an eye out for competitions and pitch-fests where you could submit your writing and get a chance to meet representatives of production houses directly. No matter how great your concept, it is of no value until it reaches the right eyes.
