Frederick Froebel’s theories and outlook of nature has always inspired me. So much so, it was the exact reason why I studied my Masters of Education based upon his philosophies. Nature creates curiosity and fuels the fire for life long learning. It encourages children to touch, smell, and observe the world around them. Parenting outside really helps parents to help their children regulate their emotions and their emotional and social development. I don’t know about you but I definitely feel my daughter is calmer, relaxed and inspired when she is learning and playing outside. What learning and development can you see in this picture? - Natural curiosity stimulated by a nurturing enviroment - Confidence building (feeling a sense of accomplishment) - Communication and Language (retelling the story of Room on the Broom) - Fine motor skills (grabbing handfuls of soil and creating a potion using the stick) - Mathematical development (learning to count and identify colours) - Opportunities for adults to model positive play and specific praise - Physical development (running to collect items for the potion and nest) -Understanding the World (developing curiosity about natural objects) Why not have a go this weekend at going outside and following the interest of your child? What a fantastic session it was! I focused on empowering the children’s confidence, to help them develop their emotional awareness through the love of PLAY! We shared our positive moments of the week, leading onto our identity task which complemented our final task of the day; emotional awareness. The children reflected on their confidence and anxiety scale after the session. They even increased their confidence number by 2 or more! Excellent commitment and progress by the children.
