Today is #EarthDay 🌍 but sustainability and the environment are a key focus for us all at #NemoLink every day. ⚡ Nemo Link is one of the most reliable #interconnectors of its type in the world and, in its first five years in operation, has enabled the exchange of 29.6 Terawatt hours of electricity between GB and Belgium.  🚗 During this time, Nemo Link has saved 1.4 million tonnes of carbon. The equivalent to taking 650,000 cars off the road! 💡 Between 2020 and 2030, National Grid estimate their interconnectors, including Nemo Link, will help Britain prevent 100 million tonnes of carbon emissions. By moving #zero-carbon energy from where it’s produced to where it’s needed most, interconnectors help to reduce carbon emissions to reach #netzero. 🤝 Nemo Link also strengthens international cooperation, which will be essential for the decarbonisation of Europe. The interconnector facilitates the integration of the European electricity market and the exchange of renewable energy over a vast geographical area.  Lisa Kettle, Nemo Link Operations Director said: ‘At Nemo Link we are proud to be part of the drive to Net Zero, playing an active part in the decarbonisation of the UK and Europe for end users. Now more than ever, it’s important that we continue to consider our environment as a pillar of our decision making. Building a Brighter Future: My First Day at Women’s Solar Electric Lab Week Starting my first day at the Women’s Solar Electric Lab Week felt like the beginning of something much larger than myself. Representing Bangladesh and Grenoble INP, I was about to join a group of extraordinary 19 women from 15 countries, all united by a shared passion for solar energy. The air was filled with excitement, and from the very first introductions, it was clear: we weren’t just learning— we were part of something bigger, a collective effort to lead and innovate in renewable energy. Our day began with the foundational session on Safe Working Practices, setting the stage for what was to come. But it wasn’t just about learning the technicalities—it was about coming together, learning from one another, and realizing that we are stronger when united. The Mini Labs, where we collaborated on problem-solving and solar installations, became a place where the spirit of teamwork and shared purpose truly shined. We weren’t just learning about the solar systems but creating a future together where women are pivotal in the renewable energy industry. The unity and strength I felt on day one made me realize how empowering it is to be part of something bigger. Every conversation and every task reminded me that, as women, we are capable and unstoppable when we work as one. The bonds we began building were just as important as the skills we were honing, and I left that day inspired and eager for what was to come. There’s a long journey ahead, filled with growth, learning, opportunities and network. But after just one day, I’m confident of one thing: when women come together in this shared mission, the possibilities are limitless. It's fascinating to note that seven Chinese firms are now leading the charge in solar energy, positioning themselves at the vanguard of this century's energy revolution. This pivot to clean technology is not just a business trend; it represents a proactive step toward combating climate change. 🌞 While critics may argue that comparing the energy outputs of oil and solar is like comparing apples and oranges, the statistics stand strong. Much like buying fruit with labeled kilojoules, we should seek clear understanding of the exajoules provided by both oil and solar sectors. It's not just about the units of energy; it's about the kind of future we're constructing with each joule. Yes, solar has its limitations, such as not generating power at night and operating below theoretical output levels during the day. However, the industry is propelling forward with innovations to address these challenges. This positive narrative of change is not merely driven by ecological consciousness but also by an intriguing economic turn—huge potential for profitability in the net zero market. Investment and development in solar energy are proving not only to be sustainable but also lucrative, thus igniting the flames of innovation and capitalist interests in harmony with our planet's welfare. As a proud advocate for renewable energy, a capitalist, and a committed environmentalist, this evolution towards sustainable energy excites me. The future is indeed electric—and seemingly profitable too! But the question remains: How quickly can we globally transition to renewables to meet our energy needs and ensure a net zero future by 2050?
