Riya Sharma from Team Earthood recently wrapped up an audit for a pretty special project under the VM0047 methodology. The project by #RewildingMaforki in Sierra Leone’s Port focuses on giving low-intensity, unproductive grasslands a fresh lease on life! From tree nurseries to planting native species and safeguarding the area from pests and illegal activities, it’s a full-circle restoration journey. With VCS CCB joint validation, this project is about securing greenhouse gas removals and creating a healthier ecosystem.

🌿 EU Grassland Watch is actively working to expand its coverage of #Natura2000 sites. We will be increasing the number of sites mapped from 3,684 to over 16,400 when fully operational, almost 70% of the total. Our focus is on selecting diverse and representative range of grassland habitat types, particularly those at risk, and under natural, semi-natural and agricultural management. This effort is part of our ongoing commitment to help stakeholders manage and protect grasslands, using data-driven insights from existing Copernicus data and services.
EU Grassland Watch is building a fully operational monitoring service for #Natura2000 grassland sites using #Copernicus#OpenData 🛰️. We aim to help conservationists, site managers, and other stakeholders better monitor and protect these key ecosystems.🌱

🌊Exciting News! Introducing Clean Tides 🌊
I am thrilled to announce the launch of Clean Tides, an innovative high-integrity Aquatic Bio-Credit platform that I have co-founded alongside George Kelly and Randy Wilgis. I was honored to represent Clean Tides at the Environmental Markets Conference (EMC) in Pittsburgh last week. Check out our recently published website to learn more! www.cleantides.net
Clean Tides has been in incubation under Earth Recovery Partners for the past 8 months. In that time, we began work with two incredibly impactful marine restoration projects along the East Coast of the United States to define how we are going to ensure the future of coastal sustainability. Clean Tides aims to provide a clear avenue to connect private finance to high-value aquatic projects to reach their impactful goals.
By creating high-integrity, third-party verified credits with long term financial assurances, we offer corporations, funders and sustainability investors an opportunity to make a lasting nature-positive impact. Additionally, we accurately report on biodiversity improvements along with added carbon sequestration and nutrient reduction benefits.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to grow and make waves in the world of nature based solutions and the rapidly emerging biodiversity credit market.

🌳 Visualize how conserving and restoring the #biodiversity of our forests strengthens global security in a new infographic from CSR’s #EcologicalSecurity Program
These are great visuals. Biodiversity is essential to survival of all the species humans need for a habitable earth. Take a look at this infographic and also the first one that is hyperlinked in the article.

But the headline is absolute nonsense. The take home message from this study is that the scientists proved nothing. They even said so. I simply cannot understand why there is confusion.
Predators are essential, they don't have adverse effects … just that life is too short to prove *how* that works and see the positive consequence. You can't draw an opposite conclusion from a study that concluded it didn't have long enough to prove anything..
In another article, the study authors were quoted as saying this might take 100 years (which is precisely how long it should take, according to other evidence ... see below).
Meanwhile, science fails. We can't support articles with headlines about how predators cause problems. The reality is, we need a *belief system* that recognizes predators are *essential*, as otherwise, ecological science will always create Type II errors in this situation. The fact that many scientists and science communicators can’t see this has led to one of the greatest fallacies of academic research in ecology today. Yes, I agree, once predators are removed it's very hard to get ecosystems functioning again. The process is messy (see my article, below). It takes time.
If only we had science communicators writing these academic articles who knew anything about why ecosystems and wildlife are critical to the future of humanity ; )
Pleased to be writing a second book on almost this exact subject. If you haven't read 'Wildlife in the Balance', please give it a go. It's a conversation starter, aimed at altering our perception of why we have to depend on rebuilding wildlife populations if we're to survive.

Please take note...while we must continue efforts at rewilding, damages done to ecosystems by eradicating a single species can potentially be irreversible
