Interesting to see how consumers are concerned and doing research about all of the facts regarding plastic and aluminum. I thought this was an interesting post so I’m sharing it and here are my comments: All cans need a coating to protect the aluminum from touching the liquid - it’s not safe to consume otherwise. Some beverages also have high acidity content that would eventually eat through the aluminum can. A coating is also applied on the can end - bottom and top. The companies that put this coating on don’t identify it as “plastic”. This is a very complicated topic that I’m doing a lot of research on to bring accurate information to the consumer. It should be noted that plastic is not infinitely recyclable the way aluminum is and most companies are producing more and more raw plastic as apposed to recycling any of it. From all my research so far, recycling aluminum is a clear winner for sustainability and biodiversity.

Not many people realise this fact about cans using plastic liners, here is a nice post to illustrate. Also interestingly using glass as the container for the experiment :-) With glass we have no such non-recyclable plastic liner is required as glass gives a natural protection to prevent affecting the contents in any way. Once you see this video, you will never forget it. Please repost out widely so others can see the truth behind the alternative packaging materials to glass. Only by knowing these things will people see the true benefits glass offers as a packaging material. We need to fight back the misinformation, coming from the supporters of alternative packging materials to glass, with factual information. This video is a nice way to demonstrate the fact regarding the plastic liner in cans. Also meaning packaging in cans cannot be 100% recyclable as is currently being claimed.

They sell #justice #empowerment #change You can do this too. Just look at what the company did in the photo. There are characters: a good guy (protagonist) and bad guy (antagonist). The hero is metal materials - an "infinitely recyclable can." The villain is a plastic material. There's no mention of plastics. The story is about the hero. And it's a funny fictitious story illustrating an environmental point that aligns with the values of their target audience. There's no science, facts, or shaming. There's no call to justice. It's just a silly story that makes people feel GOOD and EMPOWERS them to ESCAPE the plastic material pandemic. You don't have to copy this tone, but your messaging should have a bad/good guy and instead of going on and on about WHY the bad guy is bad, maybe consider making the bulk of your writing around the solutions and the benefits of the solutions. When military generals talk to their soldiers, they don't go on a 30-minute rant about the enemy. No - it's mostly about building pride, highlighting the strengths of their army, and increasing morale that they can make a difference. That's what I do at KDeCW (sorry, I gotta figure out a better name) - I build you an army with blogs and emails that inspire action. The problem with Green Marketing 👇 We need Transparency → Authenticity Here's a photo of a peanut butter package that I recently bought. ...It's from the company Veeba. As I turned the back of the label, I saw this icon and text in green... "We recycle more plastic than we use." "Proudly Plastic Positive" ♻️ Nice claim. But, the problem is... 👉 How do I know? 👉 How can I trust your claim? Where's the proof? I, as a consumer, ain't coming to your manufacturing unit to check this out, right? And, I don't know if you have genuine info about this claim. Even if you have... How do I access it? This is the problem with Green Marketing... Which soon turns it into Greenwashing. Here's what Veeba could've done... 🎯 Be transparent: Add a link or QR code which has all the info about your claim. 🎯 Be credible: Have certifications (if there are any) for being Plastic Positive. Because,... Transparency builds authenticity. And, credibility builds trust. Now's the perfect time for companies to elaborate their 'eco-friendly' claims. Sustainability Warrior or Just a Green washer. To simplify the recycling process, Coca Cola has decided to go naked for its sprite bottles. It is temporarily removing the labels from its 500-mL Sprite and Sprite Zero on-the-go bottles in a limited trial of label-less packaging. Eliminating the labels means there is no need to separate them from the bottles during the recycling process. This change aims to reduce plastic usage and simplify recycling, aligning with their #sustainability goals. Don't know if in use, but a discussion today triggered #greenjacking, when good ideas are hijacked and packaged into an unsustainable end-product for #greenwashing. Also looking at #cherrypickingsdg as a related trend. This is an EXAMPLE I used, so it's NOT about ChoViva, except as a hijacked example for #greenjacking and #cherrypickingsdgs - I think ChoViva is a GOOD idea. I just question the packaging, disqualifying the overall #sustainability but using good ChoViva for greenwashing it; and yes look at the color, sure German Rail uses it for their #greenwashing! A side note: Just today, German media also announced that for the first time the amount of trash dropped 2022 in Germany to below 400 million tons with recycling (incl. "Export") at 70.2%, 11.7% incinerated, the remains went into landfills (source i.e. https://lnkd.in/ecE9-GA3) but Germany also will fail their climate targets (source i.e. https://lnkd.in/ecE9-GA3). And we will (most likely) bust 1.5°C temperature rise for the 12th consecutive month....
