Why? Because she has joined the ranks of other notable comedians such as Nish Kumar, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, and Jonathan Pie in Climate Science Translated, a project that translates complex climate science into accessible and funny content to spur millions of people into action. Even though climate change is the greatest threat humanity has ever faced, research by the Climate Science Breakthrough team shows that just 2% of the public can name a climate scientist. Nearly everyone knows Jo Brand. Getting famous comedians to translate what climate scientists are saying in a funny, ironic and often blunt way makes the science much more accessible. Vigliotti believes that climate journalism has the power to spark change through the use of accurate, inspiring, and thought-provoking reporting. Climate change is leading to more frequent and severe natural disasters, impacting communities across the globe. Media coverage plays a critical role in informing the public about these events. Strong reporting can also empower individuals and policymakers to take action and prepare for climate impacts. However, climate journalism only represents around 1% of corporate broadcasting. Despite its potential to inspire action, climate journalism faces obstacles such as limited access to climate-related disasters and political polarization, which hinder comprehensive coverage. Overcoming these challenges requires increased resources, strategic approaches, and investment in climate journalism. If you isolate yourself from your neighbor, what kind of life will you live? What will you achieve by yourself? I've been thinking about something for a while and I need feedback please! Calling all development, WASH, water equity, climate justice and folks working in related fields. :) Since I learned about the potential for photovoice for people to tell their own stories, I've been wondering about - for want of a better term - videovoice. As in, people use the forum of video that they record themselves to say what they want other people to hear about: - what problems they care about in their local area - what work is being done now locally - how they define "success" and "impact" of that work - what they imagine when they think about a positive future in their area Choice of subject matter, manner of storytelling, choice of vocab and language, etc, is entirely up to the videomaker. The videos would then be collated on a platform where they could be shared beyond the location where they were recorded. Ideally, I'm imagining that the platform could be shared with those doing things like trust-based giving, broader media, providing remote support not available locally, etc., so that the videomaker could ask for the support they specifically need for their desired future. So my questions are: - does such a platform already exist and I'm just missing it? - does this sound like something that would be of interest to other folks in the development sector? If this could be a thing that needs to exist, my final question is: Does anyone have the skills and desire to help me make it exist? :)
