Following the call for early #elections in #Portugal, triggered by the resignation of the Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, and on the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and the #CarnationRevolution, the Portuguese have demonstrated a strong commitment to democracy in terms of #participation, reaching a record level not seen since 1995. However, the result of these elections, although they have a winner, the #DemocraticAlliance coalition, is by such a narrow margin that, from now on, the important thing will be to see how to govern in such tight conditions; #governability will depend on the possible alliances and the sense of state that each party demonstrates.
One of the most significant events, in addition to the Socialist Party's loss of seats, has been the increase in the number of deputies in the #AssemblyoftheRepublic experienced by #Chega, a far-right party; this is a phenomenon that, as in the rest of #Europe, is consolidating itself as a political alternative and raises questions about the way in which the traditional parties practise politics today.
