Check out this cool coloring page of a basking shark from Shark Trust! Basking sharks are the second biggest fish in the world (the largest is the whale shark)! Yet they eat tiny, microscopic plants and animals that float in the water, called plankton. Color the shark and show us your creation in the comments! #SharkWeek #SharkTrust #SAFESharksAndRays #BaskingShark

#Safety Tips 🐍 March through October is peak rattlesnake season. SCE services a vast amount of prime #rattlesnake terrain. Our crews may come across them while working on the power grid, which is why we educate them on species they might encounter and how to respond. What do you do if you happen to see one? First, try to remain calm. Fear of snakes often comes from the misconception that these reptiles are looking to attack, says Jack Goldfarb, SCE herpetologist and resident reptile expert. “They’re probably more scared of you than you are of them,” Goldfarb says. The rattling you hear is a warning, telling you to back off. Learn more about his environmental work, how he helps our field crews stay safe, and get more safety tips at https://lnkd.in/gfQJSzQd. #environment #nature #ecology #animals

In Belize, the jaguar’s remaining refuge is divided into two big chunks of land: one in the north, and one in the south. These rainforests are connected by a narrow, six-mile corridor of forest, outside of which danger lurks for the giant cats. Known as the Maya Forest Corridor, this bottleneck in central Belize helps jaguars migrate, keeping their populations free from inbreeding. But the forest is shrinking, as mining and agriculture advance, and jaguars find themselves in dangerously close proximity to people. Conservationists are racing against time to preserve this corridor—and hopefully, to expand it. Learn more in Wild Hope: Jaguar Passage: https://lnkd.in/g3eeWYTn

If you answered "A", you get a gold star! 🌟 Echolocation is a sophisticated biological radar that bats utilize to "see" their surroundings in complete darkness.. It involves emitting high-frequency sound waves through the mouth or nose, which then bounce off objects in the environment! 🦇 By analyzing the returning echoes, bats can form a detailed mental map of their surroundings, enabling them to navigate, avoid obstacles, and most importantly, locate prey with astonishing accuracy! #furbusters #mchenrycountyil #lakecountyil #southernwisconsin #wildliferemoval #animaldamagerepair #crittercontrol #wildlifeprevention

1.A group of flamingos is called a "flamboyance"! These colorful birds love to strut their stuff together. 2.The fingerprints of koala bears are so indistinguishable from humans that they have occasionally been confused at crime scenes! 3.The world's smallest mammal is the bumblebee bat, which is about the size of a large bumblebee and weighs less than a penny! 4.The electric eel can produce enough electricity to power a light bulb! They use this shocking ability to navigate and locate prey in murky waters. 5.Some species of frogs can freeze solid during the winter and thaw out in the spring, without any harm done to their bodies! It's like their own built-in cryogenic chamber.
