Can business be a force for good? I'd love to hear your thoughts and favourite examples! Business can create positive change in a number of ways: => Educating their customers - for example Sunbutter have created skincare products that ditch the plastic waste and through their marketing create a conversation about the damage single use plastic creates. => Disrupting business for good - Skipper have shown that rather than buying endless plastic bottles of cleaning product, you can greatly reduce the amount of plastic you use by switching to their products. And, you can buy direct from them for your cleaning products rather than rely on the supermarket duopoly. => Prioritising quality => Busy Bee Plastics focus on creating lasting products, and creating parts from plastic that repair and extend the life of machinery and equipment. Plastic is an incredible material, used thoughtfully. => Innovating towards regeneration and circular economy. These aren't all buzz words and jargon (ok, a little!). These are important topics about how we can do business in a way that actually regenerates the planet (rather than sustains current levels of destruction) and transitions us from a linear 'take-make-dispose model' that depletes natural resources, generates waste, is costly, limits innovation and furthers social inequity to a circular economy that aims to sustainably reuse materials through reuse, repurposing, recycling and remanufacturing.

𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝟰 𝗪𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝟭. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 Companies can think cyclically as opposed to linearly when it comes to their own production processes. A manufacturing company can take an honest look at the waste created in their production and think of ways to minimize or reuse that waste. If done effectively, the company can increase productivity while saving money. Given the increased consumer education in sustainability and its importance to our planet moving forward, as long as efforts are genuine and consistent, a company pursuing sustainable goals will create strong bonds with employees, customers and the surrounding community. 𝟮. 𝗚𝗼 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 If we start paying attention, we will notice that companies are still doing a lot of printing, even today during the digital era. However, that's not at all needed. Going fully digital is a win-win solution for both the planet and the company, as fully digital processes contribute to better organization, more transparency, faster transactions and better work while contributing to reducing a highly consumed product for which a great amount of natural resources is being extracted each year. If you're selling physical products, use recycled packing material. If you're a real estate agent, gift your clients with a plant for their new home so that every home sold allows you to plant a new tree. Packaging again? Yes, I was inspired, blown away - but read on... A few days ago I ordered from a new filter for a coffee pot (8 x 6.5 cm) from Harts Of Stur. Great delivery: over the weekend, I received the package (a box 25 x 21 x 21 cm)😮. 🙄 Despite being fully recyclable, my initial thought was: "How ridiculous." 🌍 However, I read the packaging info and saw that they have taken the amazing step of "NOT" recycling their packaging but REUSING it. 🌎 They take their incoming boxes and then put one of their own deliveries in it thus saving on the recycling effort, pickup, process and remanufacture simply by a quick turn-round. 😍 GENIUS! I felt a little foolish about my initial thoughts and celebrate such a simple idea. Chapeau Harts Of Stur - you taught me a real lesson in sustainability and the beauty of circularity .
