A fast-growing business advising and supporting travel agents and operators has opened a new office in the heart of Sunderland city centre. Bournemouth-headquartered Protected Trust Services (PTS) has opened a new 1,300sq ft office at The Yard, Riverside Sunderland. The site is seen by the firm’s executive team as a key step in its ambition to expand its membership from 400 to 1,000 travel businesses over the next five years. The new office will see PTS join Ocado, ATG Entertainment, Apexon, Asset 55 and others in establishing a dedicated hub at Riverside Sunderland. The company was introduced to The Yard, which opened its doors in 2022, by the Business Investment Team at Sunderland City Council, who have continued to support PTS with its expansion to the city. 🚌 Bus Service Reform – An Important Step Towards Improved Transport 🚌   We have recently submitted our response to the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority bus franchising consultation. Here are our key messages for reference: - Urgent Reform Needed: Current bus provision isn’t meeting community and economy needs sufficiently, at a time when supporting a greater shift to sustainable transport and easing the congestion on our roads is crucial. - Support for Franchising: Cambridge Ahead strongly backs the Proposed Franchising Scheme, which offers transformational opportunities for greater control, strategic oversight, and accountability. - Single Ticketing System: Represents a major step towards unified ticketing that would transform the user experience. - Integrated Transport System for the Future: More scope for local leaders to define and deliver a strategic transport system that supports sustainable growth, and embraces opportunities to transform. - Responding to the changing shape of our region: Greater influence over bus network design should enable better consideration of emerging employment sites, housing developments, and new infrastructure. It’s really important to celebrate the wins, and this is a REALLY BIG ONE worth celebrating!! Metro Trains Melbourne’s Team Infra just clocked up 18 consecutive months of bettering our stretch monthly performance targets. And as a result, our performance results are sitting in the best place they’ve ever been. It’s been a truly a One Team effort, and we couldn’t be prouder! It’s all part of the broader picture of Metro Trains Keeping Melbourne Moving. The results haven’t been achieved by good fortune. It’s been a committed effort over the full life of the franchise. Some of the key focus points have been: ·      Continued delivery of our annual Infrastructure Works Plan ·      Strong focus on condition monitoring – ensuring wherever possible we “fix before fail”. ·      Using innovative technology like “Evie”, our track and overhead recording vehicle. ·      Introducing an inner-city reliability improvement team, working to prevent those “blockbuster” peak hour inner city incidents. ·      An incredibly strong culture, where we own our issues, and collaborate to get best for passenger outcomes. At our Infra Leader’s Forum last week, we had a unique way of celebrating, because whilst we work incredibly hard, we also know how to have fun! As I couldn’t get my act together my feature on the railways, and Carlisle Support Services and the ‘hub’ at Hull station in particular, will go in the December and January editions of Professional Security Magazine. Meanwhile, link below to a ‘snapshot’ by me of private security on the railways. If I may here steal some ideas of others - the reform of the railways and the new ‘fat controller’ (as, in more innocent days, Thomas the Tank Engine put it) of Great British Railways (in sunny Derby) is an opportunity; for rail in general, and policing and security providers in particular. They, the passenger operators (one of the many things for Labour to settle is the blancmange of franchise operators, private firms like Lumo and the state as operator of last resort), and Network Rail who look after the track - add up to quite a resource. They all want the same thing – railways that run well, and in particular well-protected public spaces, the trains and stations and let’s not forget the ‘grey space’ outside before the bus stations, shopping malls and town centres and so on. The job for the top bods is, to steal someone else’s words outright, to ‘harness all of that collective energy and better divide labour to address the demand which requires warranted powers, as well as the demand which does not’. https://lnkd.in/eQVHdiPD
