We’re really looking forward to giving the business communities of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire an update on the freeport’s progress thanks to our partners at East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire). The biggest Chamber of Commerce in the UK, it holds regular Members' Forums in each of the counties it represents, and members of the freeport team will be providing updates to the next series of meetings. Our Inward investment Lead, Jon Rawcliffe, will be talking to the Nottinghamshire Members’ Forum on Monday 30 September. On Tuesday 1 October, our Head of Communications and Marketing, Dan Cooper Chart.PR MCIPR, will talk to the Derbyshire Member’s Forum, and on Tuesday 8 October Jon Rawcliffe will speak at the Leicestershire Members’ Forum. We were delighted to host regional and national partners for a guided tour of East Midlands Freeport’s 3 sites – East Midlands Intermodal Park, East Midlands Airport and Gateway Industrial Cluster and the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station. Senior colleagues from East Midlands Combined County Authority were joined by representatives from the Connected Places Catapult, and the Department for Business and Trade, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, looking at the potential our investment sites offer to deliver an additional £9bn in GVA and 28,000 jobs. The visit formed part of the work done by the #FreeportInnovationNetwork, which the Connected Places Catapult has organised to help recognise and encourage innovative approaches to delivery. We also used the opportunity to introduce our new starters to our 3 investment sites. As the freeport builds momentum, we’ve been recruiting colleagues to join our green growth, programme management and investment teams and they had the chance to see the sites and understand their potential. Meet the team: Paul Miller is Head of Operations and Programmes at the freeport, working with colleagues, partners and government to ensure it runs smoothly and delivers on their expectations. He joined the freeport after a career in the civil service which saw him work in the Cabinet Office and Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, leading programmes on devolution, the constitution, economic development and the pandemic response. He’s worked with regional mayors on extending devolution, and on the design of the Shared Prosperity Fund – one of the UK’s key regional investment initiatives. Paul says: “The freeport is a genuinely transformational opportunity for the East Midlands. Alongside the potential to deliver 28,000 jobs and an additional £9bn in GVA, it’s a chance for the region to come together to deliver growth in a joined-up way. We have a great team of partners and we’re building a strong relationship with EMCCA. Together, we can have an impact regionally and nationally.” #investment #growth #economicdevelopment #partnership
