On this day in 1885, the first ever rabies vaccine was administered. 💡 A zoonosis is any disease transmitted between animals and humans. 🦇 🐴 Today, the #CFIA’s animal health research, expertise and worldwide collaborations continuously help protect people, animals and the economy from the impacts of zoonoses. Laboratory twinning projects play a big role in the global management of animal diseases. My exploration into animal-assisted counseling and the incredible impact it can have on therapy sessions; stems from a deep passion for holistic approaches to mental health and the profound connection between humans and animals. Through my research and experience, I've discovered several key benefits of incorporating animals into counseling: 1. Enhanced Emotional Regulation: Interacting with animals can help clients regulate their emotions more effectively, providing a calming presence that reduces anxiety and stress. 2. Increased Engagement:Animals often encourage clients, especially children and adolescents, to engage more openly in therapy, fostering a more relaxed and open environment for discussion. 3.Boosted Self-Esteem: The unconditional acceptance and companionship offered by animals can significantly boost a client's self-esteem and sense of self. The integration of animals into therapeutic settings is a promising avenue for fostering deeper connections and achieving positive outcomes in mental health treatment. I am excited about the potential this approach holds and look forward to further sharing my exploring its applications.

Gingivitis is the first and only reversible stage of periodontal disease – one of the most common conditions diagnosed in cats – therefore early detection and management of gingivitis is vital for preventing disease progression. A new study published in the Journal of Small Animal Practice, is the first to use prospectively collected data to estimate the prevalence of and risk factors for gingivitis in a cohort of domestic cats, using data from 860 cats aged up to six years enrolled in the Bristol Cats Study.
