The 2024 Global Gender Gap Index, the 18th edition, benchmarks gender parity in 146 economies across four dimensions: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. This year it shows that parity remains 5 generations away - some 134 years. However, with political participation the largest gap to close, a historic election year could offer hope. 📣Slow progress: The global gender gap has closed by only 0.1 percentage points since last year. 📣Europe leads in closing the gender gap, while the Middle East and North Africa lag behind. 📣 Economic downturns and prolonged crises threaten women's and girls' economic prospects. 📣 Women remain underrepresented in leadership positions in the workforce and government. 📣 Gender gaps in STEM fields and AI talent persist, hindering women's participation in the future of work. To achieve gender equality by 2030, governments and businesses must shift resources and mindsets towards a new economic paradigm that recognizes gender parity as a condition for equitable and sustainable growth.
