In this article, Nnyombi Aloysious explores how high-ranking officials leverage informal systems to undermine formal rules and community solidarity against the abuse of entrusted power. He also discusses the implications of these informal systems for anti-corruption efforts, emphasizing the necessity of understanding how social norms sustain these informal behaviours.

This morning I am reminded, that I have worked tirelessly and relentlessly to a build my brand and reputation by being authentic and being an advocate for ethics and appropriate conduct for the people working in all sectors . Whether the smallest or alleged largest organizations relentlessly tries to tarnish/destroy the brand I’ve worked tirelessly to build—“evil prevails when good men do nothing” Anyone who stands up against unethical behaviour beside, with, along or in silent support with me are not intimidated😌. In these companies the leadership teams may attempt to project an image of alleged caring for their people on social media, behind the scenes, it’s a different story. Their alleged "concern" for staff is nothing more than a façade, a PR tactic to deceive those looking in from the outside. But the truth is out there. Factual evidence from countless individuals paints a clear picture of unethical practices, abuse, and bullying affecting staff economically and mentally. These companies have systematically overstepped the boundaries of South African labour laws, acting with impunity and stripping me—and others—of our livelihoods, sanity and finances. I refuse to tolerate any further abuse than what I’ve already endured. The time has come for accountability, and I stand firm in my commitment to shedding light on their unethical behavior. No more silence. No more intimidation. Partnering with these organisatios may reflect poorly on your values, as they continue to bully, manipulate, and destroy lives from the inside out. Ps. Did the Babel Restaurant case not teach you anything and that the MK Labour Desk is in full swing ? Or is it because you can make a few calls to ghostbusters to fix things for you, like you have on countless times. #IntegrityMatters #UnmaskTheTruth #StandAgainstBullying #EthicsInBusiness #Leadership #Accountability #UnlockingTheDoors #BeTheChange CCMA SA Legal Leaders - South Africa 🇿🇦 Department of Employment and Labour Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal BPESA eThekwini Municipality Western Cape Government James Vos Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth Ricardo Mackenzie Department of Labour KZN Department Of Economic Development Alan Winde Christopher Pappas Cyril Ramaphosa News24 Business Boss Babes of South Africa® Shahan Ramkissoon eNCA Carte Blanche

Transparency and Accountability? Political corruption in Alberta, particularly in Edmonton, mirrors national issues like the SNC-Lavalin scandal and the WE Charity controversy. Local governance often reflects broader systemic problems, with instances of mismanagement and favoritism. Strengthening oversight mechanisms, promoting transparency, and encouraging civic engagement are crucial to combat these issues. Historical parallels, such as the Roman Republic's decline and the French Revolution, underscore the importance of addressing corruption to maintain democratic integrity and public trust. https://lnkd.in/erSvnp-q #PoliticalCorruption #Accountability #Transparency #Edmonton #AlbertaPolitics #SNCScandal #WECharity #CivicEngagement #PublicTrust #Governance

Glad to see some action on ending violence against women and girls in South Africa, a country with one of the highest rape incidence in the world. Agee that “a whole-of-society approach to combat this scourge is fundamental” and that’s why our work with local partners around the world focuses on coordinated community response to serve victim-survivors. #endfemicide #endviolenceagainstwomen https://lnkd.in/gF3ycgqh

A strong undercurrent driving the unprecedented anti-tax protests in Kenya is outrage over theft of public resources coupled with the extravagant lifestyles of public servants. There are widespread frustrations that President William Ruto also failed to deliver on his electoral promises to address corruption. He’s even earned a new nickname — “Zakayo”, a reference to the corrupt biblical Zaccheus, the chief tax collector of Jericho. Gedion Onyango provides insights into how bad corruption is in Kenya and what’s needed to rein it in. 💻 The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) #Politics #KenyaProtests #RejectFInanceBill2024

Why are the gains from globalization and marketization not equally distributed and shared at the disaggregated level especially in nations with weak institutions? In our paper recently published in the Journal of Comparative Economics, we show theoretically that the formation of bureaucracy-business relations between local officials and domestic enterprises will lead to significant welfare loss through the deterrence of the entry of more efficient foreign players, and this effect varies with the strength of local institutions and the probability of bribery of potential entrants. Thanks to my coauthors for their hard work on this piece! https://lnkd.in/gV6r8jUB
