A new study from MassINC and the UMass Donahue Institute, sponsored by Eastern Bank Foundation, shows 10% of working-age residents across Massachusetts - and 20% of workers in Gateway Cities - have limited English proficiency. This curbs equitable employment access and economic inclusion & impedes growth for MA businesses who continue to experience labor shortages. A persistent lack of ESOL services is an obstacle that we can do something about by bringing together non-profits, for-profits, and government change makers to devise a strategy and apply resources. https://bit.ly/3WkeNI6

Many teachers struggle to find an affordable home close to the school where they work. It is exciting to hear about this new development, but I wish we could do more. There are no units reserved as "affordable" for teachers starting out in their career. According to the article, they are reserving 40 units to be affordable for those making $60,000/year - more than new educators earn (with very few exceptions). Another 204 are reserved for those earning about $90,000/year. I hope we can all find solutions to support educators at every stage of their career. https://lnkd.in/gwKYJuWf

Yes, you'll agree that access to technology is vital now more than ever but there are still places with very or no access at all. This digital divide is a harsh reality. Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Oglala Lakota Nation, over 35% of residents lack reliable broadband access and this gap impacts students who can’t participate in online learning and job seekers who struggle to find employment due to limited internet access. The digital divide here isn’t just a connectivity issue, it’s a barrier to education, economic opportunity, and healthcare. Think about that for a second. Closing this gap is essential if we see a future where we all have access to equal opportunities for all. So if you're involved in chairing this one way or another, know that we've got your back. #DigitalDivide #EducationForAll #RUOVAConsulting #grantwriting #fundraising

Social mobility means that your starting point in life shouldn't define your destination. Regardless of your background or where you come from, you have the potential to achieve great things! This concept emphasises that everyone should have equal opportunities to succeed, whether through education, career advancement, or personal development. It is about breaking down barriers and ensuring that factors such as socioeconomic status, race, or family background do not limit one's ability to progress and thrive. At the Academic Coach Foundation we are helping to remove barriers and create opportunities for children in South Wales from low socio-economic backgrounds. Improving social mobility is a complex challenge but education plays a huge part of the solution. Help us improve the life chances of children in Cardiff. We are seeking sponsorships starting at just £500. If your business can help make an impact - please get in touch! #CSR #Socialmobility #Wales

YMCA’s latest ‘On the Ropes’ report found that funding for youth services have been cut significantly across England and Wales since 2010. ⚠️ Across Nottinghamshire, there has been a 63% decrease in real-terms youth funding, rising to an 88% decrease in Nottingham. But what does that mean for young people in Nottinghamshire? Youth services are asset-building, which means they actively help young people to build the skills and qualities that help them with future independence, employment, and happiness. Building assets increases a young person’s chances of social mobility, which benefits young people in really important ways: 🔻More likely to achieve at least 5 GCSEs 🔻Better chances of attending university 🔻More likely to earn above the National Living Wage in adulthood 🔻Less likely to become homeless, or live in unsecure housing We're doing what we can to provide exceptional services for children and young people in Nottinghamshire, with Scholarships for those who otherwise couldn't afford to take part. Incredible organisations out there doing what they can to impact the shortages for #teachers, social workers, #SEN, #healthcare professionals and care workers. This article in The Times for Now Teach highlights why many of them struggle with the government cutting funding for those trying to make an impact. Which #UK political party will stop talking abot this and actually do something sustainable and impactful? If we cannot fix the #talent shortage for educators we will struggle to impact later stage talent pipelines. #futureofwork #recruitment https://lnkd.in/deM3vVUx

Housing stability plays a pivotal role in educational and professional development, particularly for young adults and adults in low-income communities. Recognizing this connection is key to enhancing learning and career opportunities. 📈 It has an impact on learning and performance. Studies indicate that adults in unstable housing situations often face barriers to learning, including increased stress and difficulty concentrating. These challenges can hinder their ability to succeed in educational and job training programs. A secure living environment provides emotional stability, enabling individuals to focus on personal growth and learning without the constant worry of where they will live next. ➡️ Stable housing often means better access to community resources such as libraries, career centers, and professional development programs, which are vital for adult education and skill-building. Public policies that ensure affordable housing can lead to better educational outcomes and increased economic opportunities. Collaborations with non-profits dedicated to community support can create holistic networks where education and housing go hand in hand. At Aldaba Foundation, we are dedicated to addressing the external factors that impact our beneficiaries' learning and professional growth. Our free courses are tailored to fit their unique circumstances, empowering them to achieve lasting, positive change. #EducationMatters #HousingStability #CommunityDevelopment #LifelongLearning #SocialImpact

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month for Rotary. This is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. We all know how critical reading and writing are for success in life – for gaining information, communicating, making agreements, and so forth. Enhancing Basic Education skills and Literacy are essential in reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace. Improvements can reduce maternal death, improve childhood survivability, and reduce poverty. They can also enable success in business or a profession. Projects undertaken by a Rotary Club can address low adult literacy, returning youth to school, enhancing student performance, or supplementing limited school resources.

Graduates and youth in general don't want grants; they want decent jobs so they can earn a living. Grants can't buy houses or send their kids to school; telling graduates to settle for grants instead of offering them decent jobs lacks respect. We must recognize the effort graduates put into earning their qualifications. Every graduate deserves employment or the opportunity to start a business—suggesting they should rely on grants is an insult. We need a government that creates jobs, not a country overly reliant on grants. Currently, 28 million out of 62 million people depend on grants, which is unsustainable.
