Run, don't walk. Remember, either you're running for food, or you are running from becoming food. And oftentimes you can't tell which. Either way, run! And for your journey, take along some of my learnings, that you will have the humility to confront failure, admit a mistake, and ask for help.

I made another short video that has nothing to do with my job, which I will now attempt to tenuously link to my profession! How frustrating is it that 90% of searches for "how do I resolve this IT problem I have" yield tutorials or comment threads that are as useful and information complete as this video? https://lnkd.in/eY9sFj8r

Sitting in my 1978 Camaro Z28 next to my high school crush, I'm feeling on top of the world. He just wants to drive my car. Then, he breaks the spell with a yell: BRAKE STAND, then slams the gas and the brake at the same time. Can you picture it? The stench of burning rubber. Smoke everywhere. The deafening squeal of tires in a loud and unnecessary conflict with themselves. Dr. George Land, in his TED talk, compares divergent thinking to the gas, and the convergent thinking to the brake. The gas is like divergent thinking. A road trip to anywhere, the sky's the limit. The brake is convergent thinking. It's also very important (so you don't hit grandma in the crosswalk.) The biggest mistake most people make is like my high school crush. They try to do them at the same time. "That's a bad idea." "Oh, John suggested that last week." Before you even have the chance to explore those ideas, even the ridiculous ones. Especially the ridiculous ones. You must learn to separate divergent from convergent thinking if you want to think differently and find new solutions. First, your team needs a safe space to express their ideas., even the bad ones. After that, you can converge to determine which ideas are worth moving forward with. The bad ideas sometimes lead to the most transformative. But you need to get through the messy middle of avoiding killing bad ideas before you get through the swamp to the land on the other side. #brakestand #storytelling #creativity #creativeproblemsolving #innovation #keynotespeaker #divergentthinking #convergentthinking creativityatwork #teambrainstorming #innovativesolutions
