Annals of Civic Duty ~ Having performed our civic duty -- the most sacred act as far as our lives are concerned -- we photographed ourselves at the entrance of our early voting site. Last, but not least, what attracted us to these United States is not money, material wealth, and luxury, but the freedom to live as we wished, and not being ruled by a theocrat, oligarch, plutocrat, or autocrat. P.s.: The only oath we have taken is to the very humanly drafted Constitution of the United States by Enlightenment Thinkers -- inspired by the Ancient Greeks and the Native American Haudenosaunee Confederacy -- with all its strengths and weaknesses, where the latter can always be amended with the passage of time to remove inequities. We hope the Great gift of Democracy -- along with the empirical scientific method -- invented by the Ancient Greeks in its pre-modern form will continue to serve us and our descendants in the years to come.

Hi LinkedIn! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! If you're a history buff, you'll find this interesting... Harford County, where I'm from in Maryland penned our country's first Declaration of Independence known as the Bush Declaration. This was in March 1775, to document their support of Boston and opposition to British control. The Bush Declaration contributed to the format and premise of the well-known United States Declaration of Independence that we celebrate every July 4th. Freedom is never quite free, as noted by the ending statement of the declaration, "At the risque of our lives and fortunes." More can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eavnmegs

IMO, this logic from Vivek Ramaswamy is exactly what America needs. “The right answer there isn’t to fight fire with fire; in this case, it is to fight fire with water. And that is how you actually preserve what our founding fathers envisioned in 1776.” We can have liberty, security, & prosperity. No more false trade-offs which lead to the erosion of all three. No more encroachment on God-given individual rights. No more unelected administrative state. No more empire prioritized ahead of republic. Return to the radical vision of our Founders, deter hostility against our people & territory, & allow the nation heal, prosper, & remain a staging ground for tyrant-toppling creative destruction as the 21st century unfolds. https://lnkd.in/gB2-6CRr

Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, the sons of Stratford Hall founder Thomas Lee, were the only brothers among the fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence. Their older brother Thomas Ludwell Lee was an active member of the Virginia Convention which instructed the Virginia delegation to make the resolution for independence from Great Britain. On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee, senior member of the Virginia delegation to the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, presented a three-part resolution, "Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved. That it is expedient forthwith to take the most effectual measures for forming foreign Alliances. That a plan of confederation be prepared and transmitted to the respective Colonies for their consideration and approbation." When Congress reconvened on #OnThisDay (July 2, 1776), it adopted the Lee resolution almost unanimously—New York did not cast a vote. The enduring myth of the "Lost Cause" has long colored our nation's historical landscape, weaving a narrative that obscured the harsh realities of the Civil War and its roots in slavery. This narrative was advanced by organizations that, during periods of intense racial discord, sought to misrepresent historical truths by erecting monuments and naming military bases after Confederate figures, thereby embedding these distorted values into the fabric of American society. As a nation, the symbols we choose to elevate speak to our values, shaping the lessons we pass down to future generations. The story we tell about our past informs our national identity and directs our path forward. By glorifying leaders of the Confederacy, we have too often overlooked the opportunity to honor those who embody the true ideals of courage, sacrifice, and dedication to the greater good. In this context, K. Denise Rucker Krepp's actions stand out as a profound example of leadership and moral courage. As a descendant of a Confederate Colonel, Krepp confronted her family's complex history directly by advocating for the renaming of Fort Rucker to Fort Novosel. Her efforts are more than symbolic — they mark a pivotal moment of confronting our collective past and aligning it with our national values. Her advocacy for this change reflects a broader, heartfelt dialogue about who we are as a nation and what we stand for. By choosing to honor CW4 Michael Joseph Novosel Sr., a hero who flew over 2,500 missions in Vietnam to rescue wounded soldiers, we choose to align ourselves with the best of our national character. We affirm that our military bases, monuments, and public spaces should celebrate those who have served our country with honor and integrity. Krepp's actions remind us that acknowledging our historical shortcomings is not a sign of weakness but a courageous affirmation of our commitment to truth and justice. As we strive to become a more perfect union, it is essential that we continue to confront our past, reflect on our values, and aspire to honor those who truly embody the spirit of selfless service and sacrifice.
