When it comes to making an impact, sometimes organisations of all shapes and sizes have been criticised for tokenistic efforts. Inclusion means more than just ticking a box - and it has got to mean that disability is also included. Just think back to Disability Pride earlier this year - how many organisations can you think of that celebrated and actively took part? As something of a call to arms, here at AccessAble we want you to consider disability as something at the forefront of your mind - and to be truly proactive by way of approach. And we have compiled a 101 type guide as to how to do this, click the link in the comments to continue reading. #NationalInclusionWeek #InclusionWeek #Inclusion #Inclusivity

Did you know that 1.3 billion people worldwide live with a disability? That's a huge pool of talent and innovation for businesses to tap into. By embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), companies can create accessible and inclusive environments that resonate with people with disabilities. It's crucial to recognize that any conversation about disability and inclusion must include the voices and perspectives of disabled individuals themselves. Excluding them from these discussions not only undermines the essence of inclusion but also perpetuates misconceptions and stereotypes. Their lived experiences provide invaluable insights into the challenges they face and the accommodations needed to foster genuine inclusivity. Let's ensure that our dialogues about disability prioritize representation and amplify the voices of those directly affected, paving the way for a more equitable and understanding society. #DisabilityInclusion #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #RTXADAPT

Ir doesn’t make sense to work on diversity and inclusion strategies and recruit people that have no lived experiences in the matters. This is just my point of view. I am not implying that a non disabled or non minority person cannot do the job, if someone knows how to appropriately coproduce- then people with lived experiences will be included in the processes as equal stakeholders. However, majority of organisations focus on consultations and often even mislabel it as “coproduction”. They request input from disabled and other minorities, but they do not even listen to the advice given. This is detrimental not only for diversity and inclusion strategy but to overall communication and engagement. If you are working on a strategy based on academic and professional frameworks you’ve gained from the institutions, but you have no real understanding of how it works in practise and how it affects disabled people and minorities - your project most likely to fail. Employ disabled people.

I completely agree with this post! We need to focus on dismantling the ableist systems that create barriers for people with disabilities. We need to advocate for accessibility, inclusivity, and equal rights for all. We must ensure that everyone has the same opportunities and access to resources. #Accessibility #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion #Equity #SDGs #HumanRights #Equity
Instead of viewing people with disabilities as 'inspiring,' we should be working to dismantle the ableist systems that create barriers for them. This includes advocating for accessibility, inclusivity, and equal rights. #Accessibility #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion #Equity #SDGs #HumanRights #Equity

For today’s #DisabiltyPride post let’s talk about dismantling Ableism. Because it will take all of us to do it. Read Puneet’s post below. How do you try to take apart ableism in your community? What has been working? How can we support you?
