Happy Dietitian's Week! This year's theme, "From Classroom to Clinic and Beyond," resonates with me, given my unconventional career journey. Surprisingly, my first role after graduating as a dietitian wasn't in dietetics! Shocking, I know... 😱 In my final year of dietetics, a life-changing diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, coupled with a passion for communications, led me to explore opportunities beyond the clinical realm. My journey began as a health intern at Edelman. Working on pharmaceutical accounts, my tasks ranged from distributing press releases to media monitoring. I was hooked by agency life but wanted to find a way to utilise my hard-earned dietetic qualification. Through a combination of networking, work experience, and the support of fantastic advocates and mentors, I eventually founded my own nutrition communications agency, HRS Communications, five years ago. Did you know that HRS offers work experience, internships, lectures, and placements? Over the past year, we’ve partnered with six nutrition and dietetic course providers to offer their students valuable learning opportunities. We’ve just signed up as placement providers for two more dietetic courses next year and are excited to run student research projects with University of Chichester and University of Portsmouth next year. Although my first post-graduation role wasn't in dietetics (hopefully, you'll forgive me 😉), the team at HRS are leveraging our experience to create more opportunities for dietitians and nutritionists in non-clinical settings. #RD #RD2b #DietitiansWeek
