Ebbe Lind Kristensen’s Post

What will define our industry in 2050? After attending Skift - Næringslivets klimaledere's session at Arendalsuka yesterday, I found myself reflecting on this question during my journey home. With the world undergoing rapid change - technological advancements at an unprecedented pace, climate change challenges, and much more - it's clear that the engineering industry will look vastly different in the future. Imagining what this "not-so-distant" future might hold can inspire us to start making necessary changes today. So, what about the consulting engineering industry in 2050? Here are three of my hopes: First, I hope our industry has played a leading role in mitigating climate change. By 2050, I envision us working closely with clients, contractors, partners, and end-users to establish a new standard, where sustainability objectives are integrated into every project. Second, I hope we become a more globally connected industry, where solutions developed in one region can be easily adapted and implemented elsewhere. Finally, I believe we will have addressed labor capacity challenges and skill shortages through enhanced workplace inclusion, seamless cross-border collaboration with specialists and knowledge hubs worldwide, and a new model of collaboration between universities and businesses that emphasizes lifelong learning, ensuring we have a constant inflow of talents to the industry. Thanks to Bjørn Kjærand Haugland, Nils Klippenberg, Maja Lunde, Harald Vaagaasar Nikolaisen and the others on stage with Skift - Næringslivets klimaledere for the inspiring session, and to Arendalsuka in general for many other inspiring sessions, discussions and conversations. Although short this year, I always leave inspired :-)
