You already know how healthy and sustainable #cycling is. The only remaining excuse for not cycling could be the state of cycling infrastructure. #XenoBike digitizes the world from the perspective of the cyclist, supporting smart maintenance and improvement of bike lanes.
🚴♀️ Happy World Cycling Day! 🌍 XenomatiX, nestled in Flanders with its deep-rooted #cycling culture, is inspired to drive innovation in the cycling world. Our latest creation, the #Xenobike, an electric bike that measures the quality of bike lanes and pavements, has covered tens of thousands of kilometers, ensuring safer and smoother rides for cyclists. 🛣️ That's not all! Our company offers cycling incentives, and almost 40% of our team chooses cycling as their preferred commute mode. On this special day, we salute all cyclists and pledge to enable more accessible and safer #bikelanes in urban and rural areas. #WorldCyclingDay

Dockless bike ridership skyrocketed 54% last year, according to Fluctuo’s annual review of 115 cities. There are now 130,000 dockless bikes in Europe - a 50% increase since 2022 - and more than 8x the number of dockless bikes in North America. “Politically, Europe has been laying the groundwork for years to encourage cycling and build cycling infrastructure. Some good work is being done in North America, but it will take a lot more time to see these efforts paying off at scale,” Fluctuo CEO Julien Chamussy told Zag Daily. Cities and towns have invested heavily in #cycling infrastructure over the years, from new cycling bridges along busy commuter routes to new cycling paths in quiet residential streets. 🚴 Yet, #policymakers don’t always know how local cyclists perceive these changes. Do they feel safer? Are cycling routes comfortable? Are there bottlenecks in the cycling network? To answer rather subjective questions like these, cities and towns can use #PING. ✅ This user-friendly tool, developed by Bike Citizens and Mobiel 21, transforms cyclists into citizen scientists who collect #data about their cycling journeys and the bottlenecks they encounter along the way. ✅Local policymakers can then use this data to improve cycling conditions in their city or town, in a concrete and catered way. A perfect alternative to consultancy firms or time-consuming participation processes. Would you like to discover how PING helps finetune your cycling policy? 💡 Join our #webinar on 25 January 2024, where we will use real-life data collected by cyclists in the Belgian city of Stad Leuven to demonstrate the many benefits of this innovative tool. Protected bike lanes alone do not a cycling city make. In order to build a cohesive, door-to-door network in an expedient and economical manner, cities must establish a minimum grid of streets where biking is the primary use—unraveling it from the car network through traffic calming and filtering. Not either-or, but both-and.

Bike lanes are not “solutions” in themselves but components in a mobility system. When cycling networks are measured only in terms of lane mileage, the evaluation can mislead and the results may disappoint. In “When Bicycle Lanes Are Not Enough,” Gail Jennings, Brett Petzer, and Ezra Goldman investigate Cape Town’s noble ambition to become a cycling city – and the mixed results. Recognizing cycling as a component in a sociotechnical mobility system and using Bogotá and Copenhagen as comparative reference points, Jennings, Petzer and Goldman reveal the means by which cities can markedly boost cycling’s share in everyday mobility.
